Their needs are obvious. Inside rebounding and defense. Marc Stein wrote an article at espn suggesting the Mavs go after Alonzo Mourning, PJ Brown, or Scottie Pippen. Personally I think Pippen doesn't fit here, he is a shooting guard or maybe small forward which we have enough of. Mourning would be good if he can stay healthy. Brown would be a very nice addition also, he could start at PF moving Nowitzki to the 3 spot.

Since Cuban and Nelson wasted too much money on Bradely, Eschmeyer, and La Frentz, we only have the $4.5 million exception to work with. Otherwise Dallas has to trade one of it's players. Nowitzki is untouchable, and I don't want to see Finley, Nash, or Van Exel go.

they have so many talented players already. i don't think adding a player is going to add defense. i think they need to revamp their coaching philosophies if they want more D, IMO.

no matter who you add, when everyone runs to the three point line to shoot the long ball, defense suffers..

Out of the big 3 Finley has the best chance of leaving.
Someone has to leave and changes have to be made to take them to the next level.

They do have a lot of shooters.. but they seriously need improvement on defense.
Is finley a FA ? ? how much is he getting right now with the Mavs ?
If he's a free agent. Thorn should be shooting to get Finley. Nets really need a good outside shooter that can also penetrate. Finley would be the prefect candidate.

I really hope Nets do get rid of Mutumbo.

Pippen's too old to be useful to the Mavs. Honestly I'd get of Nash. I'm a big fan of his but his inconsistency in the playoffs killed us. Finley's leadership is invaluable to the youth of the Mavs to get rid of him. Maybe they should cut Raef. I'm still pissed they signed Raef to that huge contract which hurt our chances at getting Wallace last post season. He would have a great addition and provided an interior prescence.

I don't think Finley is a FA, but he is so good many teams would jump on a chance for a trade with them. Finley leaving is just my opinion though. He seems like the best thing the Mavs can do. They can't get rid of Dirk, and Nash seems like he is going to stay put. Off their bench the only person that could get them any amount of trade value would be NVE.
I just think that Finley is the best option for them to explore.

Finley is under contract, a pretty nice one. Only way to get him is to trade for him.

About defense, the Mavs need to work on man to man. They actually improved from the year before on their opponents FG% and points allowed (about middle of the league this year). This is because their perimeter defense is ok with Finley, Bell, and Griffin. But they lack the inside defense and rebounding that would make them a GOOD defensive team. That is why I think adding a player like PJ Brown or Morning would help. La Frentz and Bradley are soft and Eschmeyer just lacks any talent whatsoever.
