Dallas Mavericks fire Avery Johnson from head coach position

Tom Izzo (Michigan State) is in the rumor mill to be making the leap to the NBA. He's be swarming around rumours with Chicago.

Dallas probably has deeper (or at least looser) pockets than Chicago would.

I wonder who Cuban is going to bring in now. It's hard to fault Johnson when you make boneheaded management moves like trade for Jason Kidd when he is 47 years old.

Kidd is 35 but the price is still too high for him (several high level draft picks).

Cuban is more and more like the Redskins owner, paying all the money for nothing (Mavs has the highest payroll in the NBA...1st round loser two years in a row).

This is shocking. Johnson is a really good coach, he won't be out of a job for too long. Where to? I bet Chicago.

I think Avery will either end up in Chicago or Golden State. Nellie is still undecided if he wants to return next season, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him step aside to bring his old friend Avery in.

I hope so. With the youth and talent on that team, they should have 2x the wins they did this year.

Kidd was a terrible idea...I said it here already. (Lost our 1st round pick and Harris) Johnson was a good coach, but at wits end here at the end.

I agree Johnson's a good coach, but if Chicago hires him, will the young players respect him? Those Chicago players all seem to have personal agendas. They started this season playoff bound, but failed miserably.

I wonder if Mike D'Antoni will get fire by no fault of his own.

getting rid of that softie dirk and getting a real leader to build the team around would have served them better

The "baby bulls" were just sick and tired of constantly being drug through the trade mill. Deng and Gordon and particular. Plus the front office are stingy and weren't offering contracts that they wanted.

That and Skyles was just a dick. That didn't help either.

I'd be happy to have Avery in Atlanta. I don't know if Atlanta is going to get rid of Woodson now that the Hawks have suddenly come to life in two playoff games against the Celtics though. At least get rid of Billy Knight though....plllllleeeeeeeeeeeeease.

D'Antoni to Toronto!

That sounds very intriguing...D'Antoni coached in Italy and the Raptors have the Euros

And D'Antoni has a close relationship with their GM, Bryan Colangelo, who used the be the Sun's President and GM. With Toronto being crushed by Orlando recently and their players questioning their coach, I think this has a good chance of happening! They got a great point guard in Jose Calderon who can maybe become Nash V2.0 too! haha

i'm sure that nellie will come back, and there's no way that GS hires johnson anyways.

Johnson to Phx or Chicago I'm guessing.

i dont know how to feel. avery johnson is a good coach but he has done some dumb shit in the playoffs. i'm not writing off the kidd trade yet either. give them some time in the offseason to work together.

anyone who faults dirk for this series is an idiot, he's the only one that gave them any chance. i put the blame more on josh howard.

Yeah Howard gagged it up in the playoffs this year. Chicago has a talented team, but I don't know how the players would react to Avery since I imagine he is tough coach like Skiles was.

I thought D'Antoni was already out? I liked D'Antoni, but sometimes you just gotta start all over with someone new.

Was time for Avery to go, but he'll find a job in no time. He's a great regular season coach, much like Marty Schotenheimer.

cuban is making a terrible decision. this is a team that deserved to win the nba championship (LOL dwhistle) and cuban fucked this season up by trading for kidd. what a joke; everyone knows that kidd is garbage now. OOOOOOOOOO WEEEEEE a PG that can rebound!!!! who gives a shit, that's what the frontline is for. kidd can't make jumpshots, is an above average passer, and an all around douche. not the type of guy i'd want on my team...especially if i trade a 1st rounder and the future, devin harris.

i wouldn't mind seeing avery in the desert, but i hope we keep d'antoni.

Avery Johnson has the highest winning percentage of any coach in NBA history (more than 250 games) according to ESPN. ITs just kinda silly that he gets the boot because his players all choke in the playoffs. I mean you can't coach a guy into having more heart, and it just seems like Dallas doesn't really care about winning. I mean not to go too far off topic, but if you see a player like say Kobe Bryant lose a playoff series he looks like he is about to go eat some babbies, but Dirk is just like "oh whatever no biggie". Not saying he should be a douche like Kobe, but maybe if he and the rest of the team actually took it personally they wouldn't lose to teams they had more than enough talent ot beat.
