If you read the press confernece, it isn't about money. He wanted control of the company his father started and his stepmother offered it for a $60 mil price. To top it off they are in talks to buy Yates racing and possibly switch to Ford. He has stated that he will not race a Ford. He even said that he isn't looking for the highest bidder in a new team, but one that can offere him the best chance at a championship.Originally posted by: Slap

Those results do not warrant him being the most popular driver in Nascar. I don't dislike Jr., and was a fan of his father, but Jr. inherited a lot of his father's fans, just because of his name...not because he was also one of the best drivers in Nascar and earned it.Originally posted by: iRONic

Earnhardt said that he didn't know if he'd be driving in the No. 8 car because car owners have the rights to numbers. His car's sponsorship by Anheuser-Busch Cos.' Budweiser beer also is undecided, Tony Ponturo, the company's vice president of sports marketing, said in an e-mailed statement.

Umm, it's just popularity. What makes something popular? Opinions and likes. That's all. Nascar's fan-base has exploded in recent years and I think many new fans like Jr because they perceive him as young and hip not just because he wins races or championships. He's a commodity and they market him as such.Originally posted by: Pacfanweb

I'm hoping he starts his own team so he will have to deal with the stupid top 35 rule. If Jr isn't making races then Nascar might actually do something to fix that stupid system.
Can you expand on what the problem is with the rule? I'm curious as to what you think the problem(s) is and how would you go about fixing it?

Dale Jr. to RCR? done deal? UPDATE #33? FOX25(Boston's FOX affiliate) is reporting.......Dale Earnhardt Jr. will soon be racing under the same legendary #3 Chevy that his dad used to race in. A source with direct knowledge of negotiations tells FOX25 that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has finalized a deal with Richard Childress Racing Thursday night and an official announcement will be coming soon. At a press conference today to announce that he was leaving the company his late dad built, Dale Jr. said he would have mixed emotions about driving his dad's #3 Chevy, but again, FOX25 has learned that this is a done deal.(FOX25)(5-10-2007)
UPDATE: FOX8 News has confirmed Junior is negotiating late Thursday night with Richard Childress to join Richard Childress Racing. An announcement could come as early as Friday. Childress has scheduled a news conference Friday at Darlington Raceway, the site of Saturday's Nextel Nextel Cup race. Sports Director Rich Brenner has also confirmed the talks between Junior and Childress include plans for Earnhardt driving the #33 Chevrolet for RCR. Budweiser, the primary sponsor for Junior's #8 car with DEI, will follow him to his new race team. (FOX8 News)(5-11-2007)

Well I don't know how one can compare Nascar to F1 at all.
It is faster, more challenging (IMO), has more curves, more rules, better women () and I'd say better atmosphere. I used to live in the U.S. so I have seen a few Nascar races on TV but haven't seen it anywhere else in the world. On the other hand, F1 is televised in 200 countries, either live or tape delayed and the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix for example was watched by 150 million people
Don't think if you can say the same about Nascar.
The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, Inc. (NASCAR), which began in 1948, is the sanctioning body of one of America's premier sports. NASCAR is the #1 spectator sport - holding 17 of the top 20 attended sporting events in the U.S., the #2 rated regular-season sport on television with broadcasts in over 150 countries, and has 75 million fans that purchase over $2 billion in annual licensed product sales. These fans are the most brand loyal in all of sports and as result, more Fortune 500 companies participate in NASCAR than any other sport.
NASCAR consists of three major national series (NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series) as well as eight regional series and one local grassroots series. NASCAR Sanctions 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 35 U.S. States, Canada and Mexico. Based in Daytona Beach (FL), NASCAR has offices in Bentonville (AR), Charlotte (NC), Concord (NC), Conover (NC), Los Angeles, New York, Mexico City and Toronto.
