Everyone has their favorite sports and hobbies to watch and I for one can't stand that F1 cart crap you call racing. I'll take nascar and drag racing over that stuff any ol day!

Yeah this was expected...He will probably drive for Hendrick...supposedly he drove a few of their cars at the test track and loved the power.

Ford definitely isn't as good as Chevy is right now, but Jr's. dad raced Fords back in the day.

Hopefully this will help him get back on track. The frustration has eating at him for a while now.

Hmmmmmmm. Since joining DEI in 1998, 17 Cup victories, an all-star race win, two Busch Series championships and 22 Busch victories.

I'd say you are wrong
Those results do not warrant him being the most popular driver in Nascar. I don't dislike Jr., and was a fan of his father, but Jr. inherited a lot of his father's fans, just because of his name...not because he was also one of the best drivers in Nascar and earned it.
Plus, his last 3 years, including this one so far, have not been anywhere near what his first few were. He has 17 Cup wins, but he already had 15 of them after the 2004 season.

He'll probably win a championship at some point, given the equipment he races, but at this point, I'd say he's more of a Bill Elliot-type of driver.....wins some races, but really not many championships, yet he's the most popular driver for years and years.

Earnhardt said that he didn't know if he'd be driving in the No. 8 car because car owners have the rights to numbers. His car's sponsorship by Anheuser-Busch Cos.' Budweiser beer also is undecided, Tony Ponturo, the company's vice president of sports marketing, said in an e-mailed statement.

ive gotta laff so hard at this, my exwifes sis (a really good friend of mine) has the number 8 and dale jr tattooed on her back. i asked her when she got it "what if he changes cars?" but she said he never would. too funny.

Umm, it's just popularity. What makes something popular? Opinions and likes. That's all. Nascar's fan-base has exploded in recent years and I think many new fans like Jr because they perceive him as young and hip not just because he wins races or championships. He's a commodity and they market him as such.

I do agree with you though, he hasn't won much recently. I believe that's due a lot to the competition. Hendricks, Gibbs and Rousch really stepped up their programs.

Can you expand on what the problem is with the rule? I'm curious as to what you think the problem(s) is and how would you go about fixing it?

If there is a god, let this be.

Well lets see. You can qualify well sometimes really well and still get sent packing. Fixing it is pretty simple. Fastest 43 cars make the field. That will never happen though because some big name can screw up and miss the race so I'd be okay with having 2 provisionals open to the 2 highest in point cars that need them but I'd like to see a limit to how many times you can use it maybe even a TEAM limit to penalize all the huge multicar teams a bit.

How many of those 17 wins by Jr are on a super speedway from back when DEI was the top dog at those? Hell even Micheal Waltrip won a bunch of those when he was with DEI.

Well I don't know how one can compare Nascar to F1 at all.

It is faster, more challenging (IMO), has more curves, more rules, better women ( :) ) and I'd say better atmosphere. I used to live in the U.S. so I have seen a few Nascar races on TV but haven't seen it anywhere else in the world. On the other hand, F1 is televised in 200 countries, either live or tape delayed and the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix for example was watched by 150 million people :) Don't think if you can say the same about Nascar.

Jr to RCR a done deal? Found this on Jayski.com

Dale Jr. to RCR? done deal? UPDATE #33? FOX25(Boston's FOX affiliate) is reporting.......Dale Earnhardt Jr. will soon be racing under the same legendary #3 Chevy that his dad used to race in. A source with direct knowledge of negotiations tells FOX25 that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has finalized a deal with Richard Childress Racing Thursday night and an official announcement will be coming soon. At a press conference today to announce that he was leaving the company his late dad built, Dale Jr. said he would have mixed emotions about driving his dad's #3 Chevy, but again, FOX25 has learned that this is a done deal.(FOX25)(5-10-2007)
UPDATE: FOX8 News has confirmed Junior is negotiating late Thursday night with Richard Childress to join Richard Childress Racing. An announcement could come as early as Friday. Childress has scheduled a news conference Friday at Darlington Raceway, the site of Saturday's Nextel Nextel Cup race. Sports Director Rich Brenner has also confirmed the talks between Junior and Childress include plans for Earnhardt driving the #33 Chevrolet for RCR. Budweiser, the primary sponsor for Junior's #8 car with DEI, will follow him to his new race team. (FOX8 News)(5-11-2007)

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, Inc. (NASCAR), which began in 1948, is the sanctioning body of one of America's premier sports. NASCAR is the #1 spectator sport - holding 17 of the top 20 attended sporting events in the U.S., the #2 rated regular-season sport on television with broadcasts in over 150 countries, and has 75 million fans that purchase over $2 billion in annual licensed product sales. These fans are the most brand loyal in all of sports and as result, more Fortune 500 companies participate in NASCAR than any other sport.

NASCAR consists of three major national series (NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series) as well as eight regional series and one local grassroots series. NASCAR Sanctions 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 35 U.S. States, Canada and Mexico. Based in Daytona Beach (FL), NASCAR has offices in Bentonville (AR), Charlotte (NC), Concord (NC), Conover (NC), Los Angeles, New York, Mexico City and Toronto.

100,000 of them Americans.

Americans like loud cars, a lot of passing, spinouts and wrecks and flamboyant drivers who don't wear tight pants.

That doesn't mean #2 in 150 countries.

And only 75 million watchers? Meh. :)

As someone who doesn't watch NASCAR ever, F1 is boring. There is no excitement because there is no passing. If you are lucky in F1 you might see 3 in a race. What is the point in watching a race if the results look is the same as the starting positions?

I can't wait to find out what happens in Richard Childress' press conference this morning. Along with Dale Jr. my other two favorite drivers are Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart. Since the chance of Jr. going over to Gibbs is slim to none, I would love to see Jr. join Kevin and Burton at RCR.
