I have no problem with the water cannon. The idea is to use non-lethal weapons to get a crowd to disperse peacefully. Well when it's 23* and someone is shooting water at you, you get the fuck out of Dodge. Problem solved.

Water cannons? In winter? At night? Are you shitting me? Guess it doesn't matter if an beloved patriot has no limbs; they're too drunk to walk anyway.

Fuckin' 'ell.

And that's not all; they can blind ya as well. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...ietrich-Wagner-near-blinded-in-Stuttgart.html

Uh, the roads were blocked by the police. The Native American protestors were removing a roadblock on the bridge, that impeded emergency services from taking injured to hospitals.

The burning was of debris to stay warm, unlike, say, setting houses on fire.

Officers "say" they were assaulted, but only one was injured and sent to hospital, which occurred AFTER they started the Jim Crow method of policing.

First, it was setting dogs on them. Now it's water cannons mixed with mace. What next, ropes and tall trees?

Sorry, I must have read it wrong. Exactly what kind of roadblock was setup by the police, don't they usually just backup two cars next to each other and call it a day? Why was the roadblock placed in the first place and what exactly did it cut off?

Also, still not a big fan of setting illegal fires and they didn't look like simply "keeping warm fires" but I have already been wrong about them so I'll assume you are right. Given all that, I have said from the very beginning that using water on them in near freezing temps was, and is, just wrong. That is really close to bordering on deadly force imho and it's not even a "humane" type of deadly force. Tear gas and rubber bullets suck but freezing to death or hypothermia has got to suck a whole lot more. Unless they had a complete full scale riot on their hands that they completely lost control of I would hope like hell that they would have better tools in their toolbag to use.

Most places replacement really isn't a problem since the ROWs have been there so long. Enbridge has been pretty active lately replacing lines in Michigan for example...after one of the old ones failed and dumped a million gallons of diluted bitumen into the Kalamazoo river. No company is going to spend big bucks for a pre-emptive replacement scheme unless there is a major failure or signs of extensive risk. You mostly have to hope their inspection scheme is up to snuff and it doesn't take a big "oops" to make them invest.

Or they can actually expand capacity, increasing income/profit, giving them a strong motivator to replace it.

The only issue was the waste of perfectly good teargas and rubber bullets. Authorities should have just started with the water cannons, the whole thing would have been over in 2 minutes.

Unless the police were there to provide support, I would argue that soaking people in freezing water while they are outside and away from shelter in 23 degree weather is very much a potentially deadly weapon. Even if it isn't, the possibility of people losing limbs to hypothermia is simply too great. Like I said, they should have other tools in their bag to use.

Well, this is getting kind of serious. One of the protesters might lose an arm. The article below has two sides to the story, it'll be interesting to see which one is right.

http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-dakota-access-pipeline-protests-20161121-story.html

There are no graphic photos included in the article I linked, but you can find them on your own, it's gruesome, as in all flesh being blown away to the bone kind of gruesome.

P.S. another article

“The best-case scenario is no pain and 10-20% functionality,” said Wayne Wilansky, Sophia’s father, who travelled to Minneapolis where his daughter underwent eight hours of surgery on Monday. He said his daughter had been hit by a concussion grenade thrown by a police officer and that the arteries, median nerve, muscle and bone in her left arm had been “blown away”.

So, those water cannons in freezing temperatures, that other civilized countries do not use; are these still perfectly acceptable "diplomatic" conversation starters? Question's aimed at the lads in favour of brutalizing the Natives, of course.

Sad thing is, I learned of this incident from my facebook feed. It did not come up on my android phone news nor my win10 news app. Really disappointing seeing media ignore the issue and focusing on latest Trump 3am tweet.

Hell, I learned about it because it gained traction on Reddit.

It just goes to show how far America has come, really. In this thread we have posters saying that the Natives had it coming, that there's nothing wrong going on. White people's perceptions of the black man has come quite a long way since the 1900s, but the red man?

Hardly an inch, by the looks of it, if we're going to condone horrific brutality being done unto them.

White people are protesting too. The poor lady who had her arm injured wasn't Native.

Do you think that the people building this pipeline should just quit making it because some people don't want it? The protesters are the ones doing illegal things here.

Nah, I don't need medication to not be racist. In your case, I'd advocate asking for a higher dosage from your GP.

LOL. Your the one foaming at the mouth and are calling me racist? Please point out where I'm racist. Be very specific. Once you find nothing, take a long walk off a tall cliff.

I don't know if they are or not but the "protesters" are breaking the law for sure.

What would Jesus do? Use a water cannon in freezing temperatures, to blow the flesh off of an oppressed race, that are speaking out against the destruction of the environment and pollution of their drinking water?

What a guy.

Since the left doesn't believe in Jesus and religion, and especially religion and government mixing, it doesn't matter what Jesus would do.

Aren't you just a dinger? Doing your parents proud, I see.

See, you consider the observation of America's racism towards Native Americans as some sort of cooky, mercury induced insanity. You'd rather it be kept on the down low, out of sight and out of mind. Y'know, "pacifist" racism. Keep the suffering reds out of sight, and everything is okay.

The company is also flying a prop plane all night every night as psych warfare. the protesters are getting care packages sent to them.

Heard the story on CBC. A first nations reporter went there for two nights three days and recorded the airplane noise.

Can't let them be having any sleep, now can we?

Seems the US still has a long way to go, as far as racial equality goes.

Wellp, since we never met Junko Furuta, we can all gladly say that her torture, murder and rape was all a hoax.

Since we have never gone to the Middle East and met the Yazidi, we can all safely say that they are not being sexually enslaved.

Since we have never gone and met every single Guatemalan peasant, we can all safely say that the rampant rape and torture done by the military never happened.

Since we have never met Hitler personally, we can safely say that the Nazis aren't all that bad.

You're a right sunflower, laddie.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the lady who had her arm injured isn't Native. They aren't "speaking out" they are trespassing.
