I was wondering if it is possible to connect to routers together. I have DSL from SBC. I was sent a Netopia modem/router. Is it possilbe to connect a Linksys wireless router to the modem. I am only asking because I am having a problem connecting to the internet with the Netopia and the Linksys. It works sometimes but works every other day. Any help greatly appreciated. TIA

Yes, it's possible.
If the Netopia is serving as a DHCP server, connect it to one of the switch ports on Linksys instead of the WAN port, and you should be all set.
You may have to check and make sure every other settings are correct on both devices.

The modem configuration does not matter. its going to hand out all of its IP addresses through DHCP. Which should be just 1. So you can only have 1 device donnected to the modem/router. The Linksys router WAN port should connect to any of the modem/router LAN ports.

If that does not work there are other problems.

Thanks for the responses guys. I do appreciate it. I just found out earlier today that the DSL line was setup for static IP addresses, which I did not know. I let you guys know how it turns out. Thx for the link JackMDS

If your DSL line is set up to assign one static address to your PC, then you'll want to connect the Linksys router to the Netopia on the Linksys' WAN port and configure the Linksys to use the DSL's static IP address and DNS information on it's WAN port and then act as a DHCP server on the LAN side to distribute IP addresses and share the connection with your PCs. (All PCs should be plugged in to the LAN ports on the Linksys router.)

usually when they say static IP address they are saying it does not change. They typically still give it out by DHCP. if you assign it manually and they are giving it by DHCP they could change it and you miss the change.
