TI-83+ for me. And, in Simpson's comic book guy voice, "Nerdiest thread ever!"

Are you still in HS or college, and what type of classes are you taking that you'll need it for? I'd say the 86/89 (I currently have the 85, the 86/89 are the next step(s) up) for college, in high school at least around here, most of them are using the old TI-82's, so a 83 would be ideal for that situation.

TI-92+ is an absolutely wonderful piece of hardware.

The 89 is good as well, but just can't compete with the full keyboard, larger screen, etc. of the 92+.

Blah.
Graphing is for the weak. :p

I've never owned one. And I made it through Cornell engineering just fine.
Hehe...

Did you know that it's not allowed in the British A' Levels as well as the IB?

Maybe that's why they call it 'maths' instead of 'math' for some reason. :p

Graphing calculators suck. They're too complicated to do the easy stuff quickly, yet they're not sophisticated enough to solve difficult problems. I use a good scientific calculator when I'm at school (Casio fx-991), if I need more sophistication I use Maple on my home computer :)

Besides they don't allow any calculators in university level math courses, eng. ones only allow the faculty standard scientific calc.

All this to say that my Ti-83 is collecting dust these days and I wish I'd never bought it.

Have you ever used a modern calculator? (read: 89 or 92/92+)

The ability to do symbolic integration/differentiation can be very useful.

I work as a chemist, and even though most math I do is algebra (gets more complex though) I feel funny if I am more than a few feet away from my precsious. . .er TI-89

not for the level math I'm doing. Even Maple chokes on some of the integrals I have to solve so I doubt these calculators would solve them. However Maple, is also useful for solving ODEs PDEs and linear algebra problems , which is why it's so useful... It's polyvalent

I have a TI-86 that I never use. Learning math with a calculator is like learning to walk with crutches.

I would agree to that. I got too dependent on my TI-82, then years later on my TI-89. Now, I couldn't find a derivitive or integral for any number.

I love my HP48G and it is awesome. It took a while to get used to RPN calc but it was definitly worth it. I just wish I had the 48GX so I can add expansion cards such as chemistry and such.

PICS! I don't remember the model of my calc, and can't find it right now :)

I have a Ti-85 that pitifully sits in the room since I'm a philosophy major . . .. But that think rocks nontheless!

I have an HP48g. I think it's the best calculator I've ever owned. For one, some of the games that you can get are pretty decent. It also has a lot of built in functions useful for double checking your work. Some of the math classes at my school requires it and no other calculator.

college, right now im in low level math + physics, which my 82 can handle no problem, but next semester i will be going into calc and a higher physics, and im pretty sure my 82 could still be useful, but hear a lot of good things about the more "feature packed" calcs that make everything that much easier.
