Tiny little thing, but $49 is a great price.

Is this something that has to be mounted in a window or can it sit in the middle of a room?

Well if it sits in the middle of the room it kind of defeats the purpose, since the back of it churns out hot air.

If anyone already install this unit, can you tell us how quite is it? I need a AC for my bedroom, but the last one made by whirlpool was so noisy, I would rather use fan when I sleep than turn on the AC.

There is a possibility the $50 in store rebate is also valid here, they just aren't advertising it. So maybe if I have a cashier ring it up, it will be $49.99 OTD. That would be too cool, lol get it?

Hmmm.. after a closer look it appears this might be the source of the $50 instant rebate:

If true, that would make this a Southern Cali deal only... Sorry Ross! :(

Does this mean I'm no longer RossMan approved? :(:D

Well you saved me from taking a trip to CostCo and looking like a Hot Deals n00b (how shameful would that be?).

No worries, you retain your RossMAN Seal of Approval status, use it wisely!

Yeah...

Terms and Conditions

1. To be eligible for a rebate......(a) I must be a residential customer on a residental rate with an active meter serviced by SCE...

So this is a "LOCAL" deal only...... bummer

a window AC unit is basically a heat exchanger. The refrigerant in the unit transfers heat from the inside room. Air runs across the coils and heat is extracted, resulting in the cooling effect that you feel. On the outside, the opposite happens. Cooler outside air runs across the coils to extract the heat from the refrigerant.

If you tried to run a window AC unit in the middle of a room, it would basically act as a dehumidifier.
