My dad likes building his own pcs but he likes the prices at monarch so he wants to buy one from them. They are going to do the assembly. He uses these simulation software so it needs to have a paralell port and the sd core cpus have better cache. He also wants to play games. It would be nice if its quiet. This will last him 3 to 4 years. The budget is 2500 including shipping

Here are the specs I configured.

Base System: Furia w/SLI
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego w/their amd hsf
Asus A8N-SLI Premium (its quieter)
Thermaltake Black Tsunami case w/Window
Thermaltake 680W PSU
OCZ 2 GB of DDR400 2x1 GB
BFG 7800GTX OC (the cheapest type of card avaliable)
Western Digital WD3200JD SATA HDD
NEC ND-3540A DVD Burner
LiteOn SOHC-5236K Combo Drive
Black Teac Floppy Drive
Creative Labs Audigy2 ZS
Windows XP Pro (He will dual boot later)
Nero and Power DVD
Free Farcry and Napster
free 1 year warranty

without shipping
$2394.98
with shipping $2440.48

Is this a good system? Any comments welcome.

Well, its an awesome system, but if you can pay more, why not get x2? or Fx-55/57? If that is your budget, then its an awesome rig.

The credit limit is $2500. It would be nice to get an x2. We can always upgrade if need be.

Does he really need a 7800gtx for his simulations? Is this program mutlithreaded or will he being doing other things at the same time as this simulation? I would not recommend a Thermaltake PSU for a high end system. Look at OCZ, Antec, PCP&C, Fortron, and seasonic. I recommend the Seasonic S12-500W. Plenty of power for less than the TT and it will be almost silent...

Looks like a super PC to me...

Their psu list sucks. I will look at other desktops to see if I can get a seasonic or something else. The 7800gtx is for gaming of course. He wants to play empire earth 2 at a decent rate and maybe the other future games.

Awesome system!

The only things I would change

1. Unless your dads got a huge monitor 34"-30" that 7800 is totally overkill. Save several hundred bucks and get a 6800GT, more than enough for serious gaming

2. Use the money you save on GPU to upgrade the CPU to an X2 4400, dual core would likely be very usefull in the sims your dad runs, and its a multitasking monster and will easily clock to 4000+ speeds and higher.

3. Ditch the PS, 680w is overkill and Thermaltake is not a great PS maker. Get a 500-550w Antec, Seasonic, Enermax, Fortron, OCZ, PC Cooling, ect... The OCZ modstream 520 mentioned above for $99 bucks is hard to beat.

You're getting 7800gtx to play empire earth 2........my second computer has an Fx5200 and I play empire earth 2 on it at normal settings -_-, a 6800GT will run ALL games right now at max settings and you will be able to for atleast a year.

Thats about the only dual rail PS that I would use. But its expensive and overkill unless your going to run 6-8 hard drives in the system.

That would be a good choice, IF he were to keep this rig for say, only six months. You have to keep in mind that this is going to last him for 3 to 4 years. A 7800GTX will be able to play future games much better than a 6800GT. Think ahead into the future.

Sorry to bump but is it ok to use the onboard sound. This A8N-SLI Premium seems to be a good a good sound. Will it tax the cpu too much? Any response would be welcome.
