Dad Sells kid's toys on ebay as punishment

i grew up in a house of 3 kids (2 boys 1 girl). i currently have 3 kids (2 boys 1 girl) and i'm convinced odd numbers in siblings means more fighting.

one kid always gets left out. and it's not always the same kid, it kind of rotates.

i can't imagine what it would be like with 3 boys.

Heheheh...cool! Way to go dad!

Being a father, I know this doesn't work. That guy just scarred his kids for life, and gave them a reason to hate him. I agree with the Dr. in the article because we do the same thing suggested and it works: Have the kids say what they did was wrong, why it's wrong, and then what they were going to do to correct it. It makes them realize the consequences of their actions and then they think twice about doing it again.

$20 says the kids are just spoiled rotten and Dad will cave and give them the gifts tomorrow. It's funny when people spend their 15 minutes with crap like this.

The family discord has been in progress for about two weeks, said the man, attributing it, in part, to the laxness of previous discipline...

...The next evening, a second family meeting was held to announce that the top level of presents - about $700 in video games - would be sold on the computer auction site. The oldest boy, the man said, responded with a challenge to carry out the threat.
Again, discipline and punishment are intertwined with typical results.

Why can't parenting be taught in school? :disgust:

I call BS, Best case: I think dad just scored 3 DS's, figured they'd be easier to get after the holidays and made a deal with the boys to score them some plus some extra games if they wait a few weeks.

What I really believe: Dad may not even be a dad but eitherway... just wants to see some Nintendo DS for a profit amidst all the other ferengi on ebay. If he was really trying to teach the kids a lesson he'd have given the toys away to someone who couldn't afford them as was mentioned in the article.

yeah this story sounds too fake. why would the dad want to be interviewed and this just sounds like another good way to promote your ebay auction.

...still funny though...

if he really wanted to sell them why did he set the reserve higher than $255? hell, that is a pretty damn good profit!

Reminds me of our next door neighbors when I liverd in Atlanta. They bought their 16 yr old a car with dire warnings about what would happen if he messed up. One of the first things he did was get a car load of friends and they all skipped school in the car. His mom and dad sold the car and the mom, for the next several weeks, drove him to school and walked him to class. It put the fear into every teenager in the neighborhood and the next car that boy got he paid for himself. I don't remember him ever straying from the straight and narrow again. 🙂

The important thing isn't selling the stuff. It's that, if you say behavior A will result in punishment B, then behavior A NEEDS to result in punishment B -- every time. That works.

*takes note*

props to that dad. i swear kids are getting worse these days. this guy has the balls to crackdown on his kids and make em listen. they better watch out, or there'll be nothing for their b-days either!

This is nothing but the new way to sell stuff like the mother selling her kid's ps2 for bad grades. He just went to Bestbuy or somewhere and bought all he could to resell for a profit.

I agree, it's probably BS. It sounds just like a contrived story to raise the auction price by getting a little notoriety. If it is real, props to the dad. But if it is real and I was the kids, I'd create a couple of fake e-bay accounts and let them bid against each other. Jack the price up to $10,000 and then not pay.
