It would be very, very difficult for me to not want to pursue vigalante justice if I knew undoubtedly someone had hurt my children intentionally.

I can't think of a much better outcome for any child molester. It's not like you can change them.

i agree. but you need to be 100% sure they did it. you need proof. the word of a 2 yr old is not proof.

this was not a case of a guy killing a child mollestor. this is cold blooded murder.

True, but I'm operating under the assumption that the guy is guilty. However, it does seem the father acted much too soon.

No, it's defintiely hot-blooded murder

I haven't read every comment, but I will add my two cents.

My two year old can not talk, but a friend of mine I grew up with, had a sister, and when she was two she could talk perfectly fine. She had almost every Star Wars character memorized as well. Plus, being two can mean the kid is actually two and a half, or two and 10 months. A lot can change in those months.

Now a normal two year old that can talk isn't going to go talk about a neighbor touching them anywhere private. That isn't something they "imagine" up. They do however imagine up cars, noises, 8 feet tall bunnies, because it is something they get exposed to watching kids cartoons, and seeing cars etc. The only time they normally get touched there is by parent changing their diaper, or giving them a bath.

So if the two year old was able to talk, and I am sure they will ask the parents to leave the child alone with them, or give the child a doll and ask her to show them what the "man" did, or leave her alone with dolls, and see if she repeats the behavior of bad touching, in order to try and prove that the dead guy really did molest the kid.

Putting myself in the lawyers shoes, I do not know if I would be in shock, but the guy would be dead still. I would rather put a molester 6 feet under and watch my kid grow up from behind glass, then let the bastard get away with it, or go to court, and become a "registered sex offender".

The problem with America these days, is all these people that believe a murderer, molester, rapist deserves the same rights and treatments, if not more than a law abiding citizen. I don't follow that, because I believe when you break the laws of society to such an extent you should lose your human rights.

Hmm, whats worse an accused (or in this case not even that) child molester. Or an admitted murderer.

No jury in the world would convict this guy of murder. At most temporary insanity, I can just see all the jurors not even shedding a tear for the neighbour.

He'll be out in a few months time at which time I'd give him a pat on the back.

many guys like him get convicted of murder, a mans brutal death is not justice for anything and is why we have laws, he deserves what he gets as long as its worth it to him thats all that matters

As for Edington, Maynard said: "Something had to happen that was terrible for this to have occurred." Edington "seemed like a computer geek or something. He was not anybody you would ever feel you were threatened by."

WTF?! Computer geeks aren't threatening?! Time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... I'm all outta gum.

i am wondering what the 2 yr old said that was so believable that they bought it hook, line and sinker? most 2 yr olds are whopper tellers.

for everyone saying the guy was justified in killing the alleged molestor, what if he (the now dead man) actually didn't do a thing?

I'd convict him unless it came out he had solid evidence. And even then i'd want something more than a few months. I don't want to feel my safety is in the hands of every 2 year old child, and hair-triggered maniac in the neighborhood.

People in this thread are talking about how lenient child molestor laws makes it more likely for molestation to happen again. What about if we let people grab a knife and stab their neighbors without any sort of investigative process, and then don't punish them? Yeah, I want to live in a world where my idiot neighbors not only feel it's okay to stab me over an unproven crime, but also feel assured they can get away with it....

...which is exactly what appears to have happened in this case in North Carolina (20 minutes from where I live, scary!).

This is a little off topic but there are very disturbing similarities.

I am with michaelpatrick33 and Waggy on this one.

If all this guy did was expose or fondle himself in front of a 2year old, no way did he deserve to die. I may go over there and slap him around a little, but that's it.

If he did in fact get his hands on the girl, where the hell was the mother?! The wife would get a good smack down prior to me handing the offender the beating of a lifetime. He might never walk again, but I would be damn sure not to kill him.

To the guys who have no faith in the legal system:
Give the justice system a chance. If you are unhappy with courtroom verdict/sentence then you can kill the creep and hope the legal system you despise goes easy on you.

So you condone the murder of an innocent man? Interesting.

Which is why assholes like you wont ever serve on a murder jury

are we still speculating about speculation or have there been more details released?

Most here are doing what most dumbass Americans do in a case like this...assume guilt before innocence. I sincerely hope one of you is falsely accused of something serious and see how it feels...

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut (AP) -- Police have concluded that a 2-year-old girl was not molested by a neighbor whom the girl's father is accused of stabbing to death in rage, a police official said Thursday.

Jonathon Edington, a 29-year-old attorney from Fairfield, is charged with killing Barry James on August 28 after his wife told him their daughter had indicated James touched her inappropriately "in the starry night," police said.

Edington pleaded not guilty last week. (Full story)

"We're confident this 2-year-old was not molested," said Capt. Gary MacNamara. "We are confident in our investigation that Mr. Edington did in fact kill Mr. James. We are as confident in our investigation that Mr. James did not molest the Edingtons' daughter."

MacNamara confirmed that investigators interviewed the girl but declined to release further details.

MacNamara also would not comment on whether the girl's mother would be charged. A molestation complaint was filed against James shortly after he was killed.

A telephone message left Thursday for Edington's attorney, Andrew Bowman, was not returned.

"The family of Barry James is adamant that Barry James was not a child molester, would never have harmed that child," Richard Meehan, the family's attorney, said Tuesday. "We fully anticipated and expected there would be nothing to corroborate this. I believe the complaint is untrue."

According to a police report describing the mother's account, the girl told her mother about the alleged molestation while the family was visiting relatives in Rhode Island.

The girl "explained that she did not want to go home because of Barry," police said in the report. When her mother asked her to explain, the girl said "that Barry puts it on her belly and her nose," the report said. When her mother asked her when James does this, she replied, "He comes to me in the starry nights."

Police say that after Edington's wife told him what their daughter said, Edington climbed through James' bedroom window and repeatedly stabbed him

/points at all the quick to judge people and laughs.

Let's hope none of you get killed just because you live next to a psycho that believes the word of a 2 yr. old without any further evidence.

<- wonders how many people will still believe 2 yr. old's word in this story as opposed to police who couldn't find any evidence.

Sounds like somebody's made up a story trying to get away with murder.
