Dad in the hospital - intensive care

Hey guys, I know this is not the greatest place to ask medical questions, but maybe your insight and experience could be helpful.

My dad had a "minor stroke" on Sunday and is in intensive care at the hospital. I do not have further details just yet. They are going to do a test to see what caused it.

Any experiences?

Edit: Update, it was a mild heart attack (still serious, none the less) and he goes for an angeogram (sp?) wed. or thurs. His condition is pretty good, considering.

yes...my aunt had a minor stroke a few years ago...she is fine now...just a little bit slower...usually minor strokes arent that bad....hope your dad gets better, and the best of luck to you Poontos!

I hope you dad is doing well. SOmetimes the hardest thing for people to cope with after a 'mini stroke' (we call it a CVA - cerebral vascular accident) is the change in motor function that can occur. Your dad might not have much of a decline in strength, that will take time to tell.

Here's a great website to find some basic info that might help you! Just type in 'stroke' on the search bar and you will all sorts of resources!

Your dad is lucky to have you!

Depends on what caused it and how it was treated. Was it a bleed or a clot? And is he better now or does he still have symptoms like slurred speach, weakness, facial drooping, or anything like that?

If he is fine now it was probably a TIA (transient ischemic attack) which is a blockage of blood flow that resolves itself and his symptoms go away.

If it was a TIA he will probably be put on blood thinners. If it was a clot and a true stroke, he will probably also get blood thinners from now on to prevent further episodes.

If it was a bleed they will need to find out why that happened, and he will NOT get blood thinners obviously.

Depending on the severity, and lingering symptoms, will determine his further care.

Good luck, hope it turns out well for him.

People do pretty well after mild MI's these days. I'm sure he'll be fine. Just get his ass on some lipitor and exercising afterwards 😉

support your family..your mother, your siblings..
let your dad know you love him.

life is precious, and you never know what's going to happen, or when.

in general, i suspect your father will be ok.

he'll be ok, but you gotta make him change his lifestyle. My dad had a heat attack..didn't change his lifestyle...had a second, minor one....changed his lifestyle a little bit.

I love my dad, but he is a dumbass when it comes to this...

Anywhoo, good luck.

Yeah heres hoping he's out of hospital and back home asap....

What's considered more serious medically btw...mild Heart Attack or mild Stroke?...doesn't have a stroke have mental/co-ordination affects for a while after?
