Not bad of a deal, the 1500 rebate made it 13067, about 1000 under invoice.

It's a nice lil commuter car, just what my dad wanted :)

This is the second Korean car we've bought, hopefully it'll fare better than the first (stupid POS KIA)

I'll post pics later if anyones interested :p

That's pretty funny, considering Hyundai owns Kia ;)

I actually like the GT, it's a sharp little car ;)

Maybe your dad needs to stop buying crappy Korean cars. He could have gotten a nice used Toyota for that money.

Wow really? Well the KIA was a 97/98 model, so I don't know when Hyundai over took them, or if they've been the primary owners since the beginning. But that Kia was a genuine POS.

You say that like you don't know the Hyundai is a genuine POS.

You say that as if another 2-3 grand is easy to come by.

13 grand has to be easy for your dad to come by if he spends it on a Hyundai.

"ugh, for another ______ you could have bought a ________."

Not the things I'd want to hear after buying a new car :p
(Glad I didn't buy it :D)

Do you understand the concept of "financing"

adding 2000-3000 plus the interest would cost him more than he intended to spend.

I like the Elantra GT from a budget and practicality standpoint. Hyundai's quality has improved exponentially in recent years, plus you have the long-ass warranty.

The main problem is the crappy resale, but you got a good deal and if you keep it for a while that's not a huge issue.

Yeah, this is strictly just a commuter car that my dad seemed to like, I mean for the weekends he's got his Olds Intrigue (soon to be replaced).

He just didn't llike driving the riced out Ford Focus we had :)

whats with people buying new cars...? They depreciate like crazy, especially cheapo korean cars.
Getting a used accord/camry/sentra would have been a better idea imho

<-got a 97 talon for $2600 with sales tax :)

I would never buy that car until its resale value holds more steady....You know a car is a depreciating asset, therefore, it's always best to buy a car that depreciates the slowest (even if you have to buy used).

Hope your dad likes it though...

The Elantra GT is a nice-looking car. Some folks are still stuck on Hyundai's old rep (when Mitsubishi made their engines for them).
As for resale, it is entirely conceivable that his dad keeps (and enjoys) the car for ten years (length of warranty).
In that case, the resale won't really matter as he has been driving a car for five or six years without making a payment on it. Time enough to save for the next car.

I know "Hyundai has greatly improved". But it's still a Hyundai, and it's still crap in my mind, and the minds of everyone else.

how long did it take you to get over the fact that "made in Japan" meant better quality than "Made in the U.S.A."?

dumby head.

dumby head.
I highly recommend dumba** as a substitute for your previous phrase.

It is understood that you wished not to be profane, and thus the inevitable "dumby head" just popped in there. But the demonstration of the strength of your emotion was drastically reduced.

Really, type dumba** next time. We'll forgive you.
