actually i agree. i didn't get half way into the book before i put it away. just didnt catch my attention. it seemed way to slow.

though some of the shows about the book (was a really good one tonight on the templers) i have enjoyed. so dan brown did do something. he sparked a interest in Jesus, mary and such.

The alternative is to what, spend $9 on a movie based on the commercial? Averaging a large number of critic's reviews is best. Perfect no, but the best way available to rate movies IMO.

How is the book? Is it very preachy? I thought about reading it, but I loathe religion.

Not preachy, not much of anything really. The book is like reading a bottle of shampoo. Lather, rinse, repeat as you're jerked around from contrived cliffhanger to contrived cliffhanger until you just don't care anymore. The book was extremely popular with non-readers and those with the attention span of an ADD 5-year-old after a triple expresso. Pure fluff, no substance, don't bother.

My friends who raved about the book are all people who don't read or have poor taste in books (Harry Potter fans). When the book got REALLY popular that confirmed it was pure crap so I never read it. The movie also looks craptastic.

This movie was too rushed..... they really should have taken an 18-24 month development time to it. Anyone know why they decided to rush it?

I remember when they announced the release date I knew it wouldn't be good news.

I read a lot of novels and I thoroughly enjoyed The DaVinci Code. I didn't like his ending very much but none the less it was good. Most authors have issues with their endings. I've since read Angels and Demons (alright but that ending was just atrocious.) and I finished Deception Point 2 weeks ago. Entertaining again but it turned me off to Dan Brown. Too much unbelievable things happening which I don't like.

I definitely want to see the movie but will wait to spend my (almost $10) on X3 as well.

Just got home from seeing it.

I read the book this week, so it was fresh in my mind.

I'm not really a pop-culture kind of guy, but this one intrigued me and I had to see what all the hoopla was about.

The book was an enjoyable read in my opinion. Just good old pulp fiction - something to read on the crapper or what have you.

The movie sucked big balls in my opinion... on its own it was bad, but as an adaptation, it was horrid. *IMHO*

Although some things (or a lot of things) in Deception Point were unbelievable, i thought it was a really good book overall tho.

Just saw the movie. I thought it was done really well. To portray everything in the book is of course a daunting task, but they did it awesomely. They even changed Robert Langdon's character to someone who doesn't really believe in the bloodline, and is someone who is a lot more neutral than the one portrayed in the book.

Overall, for the time alloted, the movie was done awesomely, and is actually an enjoyable movie. A lot of the dialogue comes straight from the book. Some people may complain that the clue-hunting seemed rushed. But, what do you want? you want the characters have their thoughts narrated? lol.

It's probably a better movie for those who haven't read the book than those who has. (my dad enjoyed it more than i did, and he hasn't read the book).

I give it a 7.5/10. Not great, but very enjoyable, and well done.

This is what I am thinking.

I saw this with people who read the book and support the idea that Jesus had a bloodline.

I came into the movie without reading the book, and I do not believe Jesus had a bloodline.

I came out thinking it was a welldone movie despite it's take on history,
They came out bored and ready to go home.

Wierd eh?

Anyways, people who give bad reviews to movies like this obviously haven't seen Biodome. Watch that movie and you can even appreciate Jar-Jar Binks.

can someone just tell me what happens in the movie, very briefly, that way I don't have to watch it. I keep hearing the book sucks, and then the movie sucks?

My wife and just I saw it. We both read the books and we both enjoyed the movie. It's not the best movie we have seen recently but we would definitely recommend it to other people. It seems like the critics are being overly harsh for some reason.

The book was brutal and poorly written... The plot seemed like subtext to a series fanatical ideas. However interesting these facts were, I can't see the bad reviews being a result of high expectations...

I think they did a good job on it overall. There was a lot I felt they should have elaborated a little more on though, to help those who haven't read the book. But then again, to go into too much elaboration would have made this a 3 hour+ movie, so what can ya do?

Bezu's character seemed to lack personality IMO. Ian McKellan was great though in his role as Sir Teabing.

One thing in particular I didn't like though was how they completely left out the interaction between Robert and the docent at Rosslin Chapel, where it became apparent that he was Sophie's long lost brother.

who cares about movie critics. I won't go see a movie just cause some puke says its good or not. It's contraversial and that is why it will do very well.

I saw it yesterday and didn't think it was nearly as bad as they make it out to be. It wasn't that great, but it wasn't awful either. (I never read the book, though.)

I saw it today in a full theater at 3 pm. It wasn't bad. Only a couple of times did I space out, but I don't think I missed much. The important thing is that I was entertained for two and a half hours and didn't feel like my time was wasted.
