DA-MNed Message Parser!!

I had another message trapped by your da-mned censor. Either fix the dang parser OR drop it!
. This level of stupidity is a PITA.

Here's my message:
<Quote>
. . The LS-120 was an Imation/3M - Matsushi-ta* (aka Panasonic) collaboration. Sony had nothing to do with it. Mitsubishi made some drives too - perhaps under license.
. I still have one in my machine as it handles standard floppy disks much faster than a regular drive. I sure wished the LS-240 drive had caught on enough that the price became reasonable - it could put 20MB on a standard floppy diskette!
. But they are definitely obsolete due to the price of optical media. The Zip drive was obsolete from the day it was introduced due to unreliability. It's a wonder that Iomega survived after frittering away the good will earned in the Bernoulli Box days with the Zip fiasco. If they weren't selling a lot of rebadged standard external optical and hard drives, they probably would be dead.

* I had to put a hyphen in the Matsushi-ta as there is a "censored" word in there without it. How dumb can you get. If you're going to censor at all, kindly fix the damn parser!!! .bh.

I encountered that the other day when replying to this thread (in fact, with exactly that word: Matsush1ta). They obviously "fixed" it to search within words, so it catches not only s*** but also bulls***, horses***, s***er, s***ty, etc. The only problem is that it is too freakin strict - at least they don't filter "ass" or else we'd have to write a**ume, which would really suck.

If ultraqu1et is a censored word, how come you have it in your message?

.bh.
Instead of saying U L traQuiet, he probably says U I traQuiet, with an "I" aka "eye."

there's a simple way around the filter..

Apparently not... it just takes too long to find the troubling fragment.

I seem to recall UQ being a user here at some point. What he did to make his name end up on the banned words list I have no freakin idea, because we can still say DennilFloss - and as most of you know, that was quite a fiasco (regardless of which side you're on, you have to admit that he sure earned an infamous place in AT forum history)... 😕

You can't even use a banned member's nick in vain??? What is this, the Soviet Union under Stalin where uncomfortable historical figures got "disappeared" - books destroyed and reprinted with any reference expunged...

How did a word like that get banned?
It's a banned members nick.
I know what the term is; what I do not know, and what I would like to know, is why that particular username is different from other users who have been banned but whose names still are allowed to slip past the filter?

That's pretty much what the anandtech forums are becoming..

That's not true. The forums are looser than ever. I'd like to see it go the other way.

Yes, I know, but I don't want to get banned. 😉
The way around the word filter is to just put an unclosed tag somewhere in the middle of the word. So Ultra[[/b]/b]Quiet looks like Ultra[/b]Quiet when rendered by fusetalk.

What makes you think telling that would get you banned? *Abusing* that is what will get you banned. Perhaps if more people knew about it the fix would get a higher priority from the FuseTalk coders.

Yes, but you still have to locate the offending word if you don't know that you used one. Will Ultra Quiet go thru unscathed?
