Couple interesting prices effective today!

All skt 939

1) Opteron Dual-Core Model 165 $278
This is a full 2MB lvl2 chip like X2 4400. Coming in a 1.8Ghz (so what) is about $55 cheaper than X2 3800 but has twice the cache. This should be no brainer for dual core person.

2) Opteron Model 144 $111
This Chip is cheaper than venice with full 1MB lvl2..

3) Opteron Model 146 $125
Again cheaper than venice at same speed. Probably a better choice due to 10x.

That's pretty much it. Most X2, Venice, San Deigo prices stayed the same.

Nice deals. That $111 Opteron 144 is mouth-watering, especially considering the fact that most s939 single-core Opterons out there are probably CABYE-stepping chips.

Now we just have to wait for these to be available somewhere (at close-to-offical price, that is). I'm surprised AMD is pushing prices on socket 939 Opterons so hard, though I suppose it's trying to increase its share on the lower-end server market.

Hmm...if anyone actually ends up selling the chips for these prices and not overcharging for them, I may have to go for an Opteron 165 if my X2 3800+ order from Hot Deals falls through.

I doubt you're going to see them quite that cheap...

This listing reflects pricing for direct AMD customers in 1000-unit tray quantities, except when designated as PIB quantities.

However we should see some nice bargains. :)

In the UK a retail 3200+ is the same price as the 2.0GHz Opteron with 1MB cache, 2.2GHz Opteron and 3700+ (both 1MB) are the same price.
Dunno about dual core Opterons, haven't seen any in my brief look, but the Opterons will almost certainly be pretty much as cheap as at least retail AMD64's, but maybe not OEM (which AMD are doing away with anyway)

I want one. Of course, that's the unit price per 1000. But hopefully a couple retailer (eWiz) will sell them for $160. Have yet to see the 146's available anywhere at a reasonable price yet.

Man this is getting nice ... I see an Opteron 165... or two ... in my future :D

I think we'll begin to see a mass exodus towards dual core as these prices continue to slip.

Problem is, you're not going to see those prices anytime soon.

First, they are for orders of 1,000+. That rules most of us out :)

Second, that's only if you buy direct from AMD.

Third, that does not include any overhead or markups from vendors. Tack on 20-30% and you're more accurate for end-user pricing.

Just as a point of fact, my new "wholesale" Price on the 144's is ~$138. That's *after* the price drops from AMD. So my point is, don't get too excited yet everyone!

What are you talking about tank?

I see $328 listed there for 3800 X2 for 1000 units - guess what retailers are selling them for? That's right $328 or less! $325

You telling me mwave just loves losing $3 a processor?

No, all prices are negotaiable... that's AMD's asking price you work backwards from that.

More proof?

AMD says 3200 is $155 for 1000 units - Mwave losing at least another $3 per processor

AMD says FX-55 is $827 for 1000 units - Mwave losing at least $16 every sale selling them for $811

I think not!

BTW congrats on getting married.:)

damn. I'm thinking mini dual core folding farm of doom! for maybe $2k, you could get 3 or 4 of those opteron 165s running (512MB RAM, intergrated mobo, no monitor, case, small HDD), even if they only get to about 2.2, 2.4 on stock cooling, thats 2-5K PPD....

Problem is, we don't know if there are any other promotions running in the background. I got my Honda Accord at a price below invoice price because the dealership will receive some lump of cash if they sold X many cars. So they lose a little per sale in the hopes of hitting that sale goal.

You're right, prices are negotiable to a point. It's possible these places are getting them cheaper, and passing it along. It's also possible they buy them when there are nice promos going; this does happen as well.

My suspicion though is that they sell some units under cost to bring in customers. Remember many of the stores you see selling them below cost also MAJORLY price gouged people for the new processors when they first came out. It's easy to sell an FX chip, which doesn't sell a whole lot, for a loss of $16, when you make $50+ selling hundreds of a popular unit at launch.

On top of that, often companies bank on you comming in and buying that one unit at a loss, but also buying the mobo, memory, etc along with it... so it all evens out.

So really, it's possible they are getting much better prices than the 1,000k tray price, but I kind of doubt it. AMD has trouble meeting demand as it is, so they have no compelling reason to undercut thier prices; they will sell anyway. I suspect it's undercutting by the reseller to bring in business and make a name. Who really knows? :)

Yes and no.

We'll have them, but they'll be drop shipped. Actually, I think we even have some available right now. Our site may not reflect this though. Drop ships are a pain :)

I won't know what core they are since the are DSed, but I am pretty sure they're available!

I have a really sweet 3700+ SD, it's been at over 2.7GHz stable with moderate volts. I wonder if I should sell it and get me one of those chips. I really am debating this. :(

Don't waste the keystrokes Tank, most people don't seem to get it unless they've been in business for themselves for a while. In fact it's getting so bad here that if you don't sell at or below cost, well then you're price gouging. I wonder if being in the tech industry is even worth it some days...

EDIT: spell check is my friend
