D3: Guns look best with medium quality settings

I've been comparing screenies from the game at medium and ultra high quality settings. I notice absolutely no differences in the quality of the environment at each setting. I did notice that the guns were more detailed with medium quality settings. What? yea, I can't believe it. I'll look at the monsters next, which I'm guessing will look better at ultra quality.

I have no where to post pics, so can someone reproduce these observations?

The medium quality textures are compressed, so you see blockier color transitions vs Ultra qualities smoother color transitions on the textures. On the gun, the little blockiness may give the impression of sharp angles and more detail, while the smooth ultra quality may give the impression of less components and less sharp angles. I think this may be the reason, but this is just a guess.

The gun really doesn't look noticably different in those two pics. However, there are some other noticable differences, especially with the lighting on the left side.

I think the textures on the gun look better in UH quality. softer lighting and smoother color transitions

I have to say that it is very hard for me to notice any difference in image quality. Considering in motion it will probably be even harder? Hmmm..but doesnt the ultra quality setting make the environments more detailed, besides the guns? I say if you personally like the medium quality setting just as much, then why not enjoy higher frames while you are playing? Just stick with what you like.

I think the lighting looks better on the MQ settings, UHQ is too smoothe for the surface of a gun, IMO.
But on UHQ, the lighter coloured bit above the black bits is a lot better (better transition) and on the MQ gun.

I notice no difference.

Looked at it for 5 minutes. There was a difference, but it looked like a lighting difference where the source of light was in a different position.

Because it is so amazingly difficult to notice a difference, Ultra Quality as well as High Quality is overrated and not worth wasting performance on.

That's pushing it for a card that age. I played through the first level at 640x480 MQ (because I didn't want to wait to restart) and it looked pretty good. Not as good as 1024x768, of course, but still very playable.
