I hear ya, simply a poorly administrated project. This has been at least a month of hell to keep running. :|

I wonder if it's too late to keep pace with my old racing buddy ßGød in RC5-72? ;)

Sorry to hear about the problems with the D2OL project. If you're serious about switching to another project how about SETI? I know the SETI TeAm could sure use it right now. We lost 50K in WU's today and dropped from 4th to 6th in production.

**NOTE: Please to not take this as an attempt to recruit power away from another project as I'm against that. I'm only speaking to anyone who's seriously considering leaving the D2OL project because of the apparent problems.

Robor... I think we are all well aware of what the options are in terms of projects that are currently open. All of us want this project to continue, but our level of frustration with the absence of any type of communication is getting to a critical point...

I don't personally take your post as being in the same vein as ambulance-chasing, but some might...

I got sick of D2OL a few weeks ago, mainly because all my clients would crash and I wouldn't be around to fix them. But the lack of an effective administration team is lame. I have since switched to Seveteen or Bust which has a rock solid client for windows, linux, freebsd, and os x, along with great stats. Also, Team Anandtech is about to be passed, so I decided to step in and change things.

Another point of consideration is that some of us joined this project to get away from SETI for a while; now, with all of the cheating that's finally been exposed in the project, some like myself have a rather sour taste in our mouth and aren't really looking to return to the S@H project with any gusto.

if you count get the team to move en mass it would make a big different to any program. DF could use the help also and it seems to be a nice working program at least for me in the time I've ran it. I will be moving more machines over to it when the seti team takes 4th back from hwf, until then I've moved my machines back to seti except for 1 p2 350 I have.
They messed TSC up the same way they have D2OL and a lot of people have dropped it also.

Wish I could argue your point but I can't. This cheating thing really sucks. IMO, they should close the project to all new members and delete *all* of the WU's by any known cheater.

That said, there's too many good and honest members of TA SETI to chase me off the project so late in the game. I'd sure like to get back into 4th place and finish there. There's alleged cheaters on teams ahead of us so who knows what will happen in the future?

Anyway, I hope the D2OL people work out the problems. Good luck everyone...

Sengent's attitude is really starting to piss me off.
Do I want to leave D2OL, no, not really. I like the aim of the project and you can get quite a respectable stats score (when they're working of course). I could live with the stats thing over the weekend (and it's now Tuesday :( ), but I'm not sure I like the thought of losing candidates. I will NOT process candidates for nothing.
Then again I don't want to take part in one of these projects where it takes all day to crunch one work unit. However, if the TeAm decides, then I'll move my two PC'S to something else.

andy- I think the choice to stay or leave is really a personal one... this project appeals to me in a couple of ways, but, like you said, this is money out of my pocket... I'd like to feel that it's not being wasted...

I would hope that if the team decides to move, that we choose something that will help mankind rid themselves of cancer, AIDS, virus' and/or etc. . If you guys head out to try and talk to the martians or find the proverbial needle in the haystack (i.e. I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 1,000,000,000...................., now you try and guess what it is), I won't be coming along.

I left D²OL a few weeks ago because of the problems and switched over to Distributed Folding. Quick and small client and you gain stats very quickly. My slowest machine, a P3 600, puts out almost 50,000 wu's a day and they just updated the client so it runs about twice as fast. I haven't checked the stats on that machine yet because the update just happened today.

It's also for a good cause. Just wanted to put that little nugget out there for anyone considering a switch. I applaud the patience of those of you that decide(d) to stick with D²OL!

Well, KenW just appeared to announce new candidates in the next few days. No mention of the stats, so I've just asked him. See how long it takes to get a reply :(

That was quick (sort of). Nothing about the stats being updated but, after asking is it safe to upload completed candidates, and I quote;
"The statistics generators and result handlers reside seperately so it is safe for you to upload those candidates."
Looks like it's back on line again.

Im not gonna go to SETI if stop doing D2OL, for some odd reason I dont like it... Probably becouse the workunits take so long to crunch. Im probably going to try DF.

Hope D2OL is getting better now... anyway, I don't really like the idea of someone simply deciding on which project the D2OL TeAm will continue work... simply because it won't work and then its a personal choice anyway. As alternatives to D2OL there are DF and F@H which are both somewhat working in the same direction, and both could of course need some help ;) Oh, and of course F@H is needing lots of WUs... ;) and our team is pretty small anyway (and our position bad ;) ). (If you want small WUs you can work entirely on G@H and still contribute to the F@H team and science... these WUs take maybe 15 hours (?) on my Celeron@458)

I don't think the intent was to suggest that the entire D2OL team move to another project... I believe the comment was, if that were to happen, it would make quite an impact. I'm sure that nobody meant to imply that a single project would be chosen and all of us would go to it...

Well I am still going to keep my word and give them till the new year. If they fail I am going over to SB where I can make a difference. :)

I agree with the idea that each individual should feel free to choose the project(s) of their choice. TA has a strong force in many projects as shown on MereMortal's DC Repository.

I wish I had more computers so I could contribute to more of the projects. Lately I've been letting D2OL slide while focusing on two smaller DC projects NEO and eOn. I feel a little bad about my lack of contribution to D2OL lately, but the other projects are small enough that even my two computers have a major impact on TA's standings.

NEO has had some problems with stats as well though with some WU's not being counted. This has been much improved with version .517 but I have had an uncounted dump once since its release.

I don't want to recruit away from D2OL, but if you were already looking I thought NEO and eOn haven't gotten many posts.

Like everyone else, I'm getting a little tired of D2OL's constant problems. I've already switched 2 of my machines to the Find-a-Drug DC project, and will probably switch the rest by the end of the week. It's similar to the UD project but uses an newer engine. The nice thing about it is that it works towards the same goal as D2OL in finding cures for bioterrism agents, and it also does work towards cancer, HIV, and a few others. I've been running the client on one of my machine for two weeks now without a single hiccup. Our team is currently very small, only 4 members, and there are only 32 teams total. You can find out a little more about it HERE.
