D2OL queued units

Just curious how many units I should keep queued on each node? Is 50 enough? I just started running the client yesterday and have 7 nodes and want to make sure they keep filled.

There doesn't seem to be a time limit on the candidates, and, for science and validity purposes, I believe each candidate gets checked three times, so there really is no harm in holding that many candidates in queue. In the bad-ole-days a couple of years ago when the servers were unstable, there were often outages that would leave the crunchers with no work to chew through. The servers seem to be much more stable over the last year, however, like Shame said, better safe than sorry! 🙂

I don't know if I would want that much. Wouldn't some get wasted? -Por

No, none would get wasted unless you have a hard drive crash. The client connects every six hours unless you take it off line, (handy if you don?t have a constant internet connection or you want to save up for a big flush) the queue works on the FIFO (First in first out) method so eventually you?d get though all the candidates in the order you downloaded them.

The minimum that I have some of my PC?s queues set is for a weeks worth of work but most are set at either 1500 or 2000, 15-20 days worth of candidates. The longest the candidate server has been down in the past year was 3 days or so and that was right after they replaced it and were having problems getting the new server to run. Once they got it stable there hasn?t been any major problems I can remember.

The Stats server is another story, it been down several times in the last year. It doesn?t affect getting work or having your work counted on your overall stats total just getting your daily totals. It?s usually on the weekends and most of the time it?s back up in a few hours but sometimes it takes a day or two. Some people queue up enough work for several days so when the stats server goes down they can take the client offline until it comes back.
