D2OL question.

Has anyone run the client in a way other than using the gui? I've found that there are 3 different clients (or ways to run the client); gui, cli, and file based. I'm trying to determine which runs the fastest. Also I'm looking for one that doesn't display any windows, anything in the system tray, and that doesn't require any interaction once installed.

The only thing I know of that improved upon the D2OL client is a little program called DSpy. It gives a lot more info about what the client is doing than the standard graphical interface but doesn't slow down the calcs like the gui. DSpy page.

I'm afraid this doesn't address what you are asking for though.

I tend to run things cli. I believe the only way to do what you want is to run the controller in file-based mode.

If you want to run faster, run in Linux--it's 25-50% faster than in Windows.

I also believe some people have tried to substitute in IBM java for Sun java (less bloat), but I haven't heard any success stories.

Good grief, just installed DSPY and it takes about 20MB less Ram to view than the agent with all animations disabled. Great tool.. 🙂
