Is Direct2Drive just down, or is it being hacked right now? With so many game sites being hacked lately it makes one concerned.

The site is "up", but not working as intended. Instead of it being hacked, perhaps they forgot to renew their domain registration ?

Working fine for me. The heroes of newerth site is redirecting to a tumblr site though. Not sure what's up with that.
