D-SLR fanatics...Adobe Lightroom Beta released

Thanks NFS, I'll check it out. I'm glad this came out when it did, I'll now try it out before making a decision to purchase Capture NX (I may stick with Capture 4.4).

It friggin' AMAZING how fast it zips through RAW files. It takes Photoshop and Microsoft RAW Viewer forever to cycle through them on my PC.

which is all sortof weird

when browsing raw photos on my 350d its way faster, just instant, with jpg it takes a while

Still looking, but hey, sounds like Stewart Copeland in the Play on the opening page. Must be good. 😉

actually, the lightroom beta has been out for awhile on OSX... gonna try the Win version tonight when i get home...

I like the layout of it, but it was incredibly slow on a 1.42ghz G4 where CS2 runs just fine.

Yeah, it lags a bit. It takes like 10 seconds for it to even attempt to open CS2 after I click the export button.

How is this different/better than Aperture?

Lets see...

1) Works on the PC
2) Has a more flexible file management system
3) Doesn't introduce artifacts in final output
4) Is made with bits of real pather...so you know it's good!

I still like Picasa 😀 OT, I've been trying to get myself on iPhoto, but I just can't. I like Picasa so much better. Lightroom looks like it has the simplicity of Picasa coupled with the power of Adobe's technology.

woot, windows version! i've been waiting to try this out... but since I can't afford a mac that could power apeture... woot! wait.. how much is this going to cost...

Anyone else finding it to be really SLOW? I'm not sure if it offloads work on the GPU (as my GPU sucks), but otherwise, my computers specs are pretty nice and this thing is chugging along.

They have stated in their release notes that they have yet to hit their performance goals in windows...and that they are still working towards that. I'm fairly certain they will figure that out in no time...after all, this is the first release that supports Windows.

I am curious if it does attempt to offload any processing to the GPU. I know that was one of the "big things" about Aperture...but many people complained it had major performance issues as well. I'm curious to try this out on my home machine (which I'm currently fixing because of bad motherboard) and my laptop to see if there is a noticeable difference in speed.

so...any idea what the price might be for the final release?
it looks cool, and I'm just starting to look around for if/when I get a DSLR (Nikon D50, methinks)

Okay, didn't see that, thanks
