D-Link Wireless Router, Wireless PC Card, and NIC $139.99

It's just a 2-port router (DI-711) without a printer port and a regular wired NIC (10/100?), so my guess is the price is good, but probably not an error.

Anyone know if this setup will work with Win XP? The product details only go as high up as 2k...

HKS, I had a bidder retract on e*ay because the DWL-650 does not have native XP support. I'm pretty sure the drivers are available somewhere out there, though. www.practicallynetworked.com should have more details.

PUN, I got in on the DI-713p + DWL-650 deal for $109 AR a couple of months back here at AT 🙂 I guess that's why this price seemed good to me but didn't appear to be in error. At amazon.com the DI-713p (with 3 LAN ports, 1 WAN port and 1 printer port) went for as low as $95.99 on a deal, if I remember right. Also, there appears to be no info on the NIC 😕 The DI-711 has just 1 LAN and 1 WAN port. It's still a great deal for the casual user who has cable/dsl and is certain not to go beyond 1 desktop and 1 laptop in the near future.

Hmm... I suppose it has support for 256 computers, but only 2 ports for additional hardwired computers, right? So there are three ports total, 2 ethernet jacks and 1 wan? Into the wan, you could stick another hub if you had one... that would expand your hard wired capability, but if you wanna use more wireless you should be able to stick it in with no problems. I'm still wondering about xp compatibility though.. I'll have to check that.

The DWL-650 works fine in WXP. The drivers install cleanly.

However, Orinoco clients significantly outperform the Intersil Prism2-based device. Orinoco clients are consistently rated at the top in terms of value.

I have the D-Link 713P with an Orinoco pcmia card and have had nothing but great experiences with it. I did have the D-Link card at first and boy did it suck ass!
