As the title states, I am having trouble with a router resetting. It is a D-Link DI-604. I acquired it used, and it has been acting up on me every since I installed it.

What happens is when I plug it in to my computers, and try to use the net, within 15-20 secs, it resets, and will go through the whole reset process, then connect again with my computers. However, when I connect to the ReplayTV server, it went through the whole update process without a hitch.

I have two different PCs connected to the router, and the results are the same when any internet activity is iniated.

Any help would be appreciated. I have already decided that I will be buying a new router soon, but would like to get this one running for now if it is at all possible.

Thank you,

Gump

i have a 604 for my folks and had that problem when i was setting it up out of the box for them. I think it was solved via formware upgrade.

Well, I checked the firmware version, and it has the latest already, 2.20. Tried a factory reset, but am still having the same problems.

Still pulling my hair out, but I thank those who offered suggestions and help, and would welcome any other ideas anyone has.

Thank you,

Gump

Cable.

One thing I forgot to mention that I tried, I was gone all day yesterday, and I connected it and left it up, and it didn't disconnect all day.

Don't know if that means anything.

Thanks again,

Gump

EDIT, sorry, I am trying to use the net while it is doing this, and it looks like it posted the message when I didn't think it did.

Hey, I had that same router and was experiencing the exact same problems. Firmware solved nothing. The problem is that the router itself overheats over time, especially with heavy use. The one interm solution is to leave it standing on it's side as opposed to laying flat. This allows the heat to dissipate a little better. It doesn't solve the problem though; it only minimizes it a little. If I were you I would just buy a new one. I replaced mine with a Linksys and I haven't had to reset the thing a single time in over two months now.

What hardware revision do you have? Mine was a Rev-2, I read something about the Rev-3's having a faster processor inside that was less likely to overheat. Maybe if you're lucky you could RMA and get a Rev-3, but I'm still not convinced that will solve the problem.

Unfortunately, this router seems to just be a lemon. Do a google search and you will find a zillion forum threads discussing these exact issues. It's a shame. I will never buy another D-Link product again, regardless of reviews or what other people say about them. It's just one of those things. When I had mine I was resetting it at least three times per day. Unacceptable.
