D-Link Router $29 after 30+20 MIR's

This coming Sunday (3/10) Best Buy is once again having the D-Link 704P, 4 port router with printserver for 29.99 after 50 dollars in mail in rebates. They offered this deal a couple months, and now it's back again. Hope this helps someone out. Heads up though, no rainchecks are gonna be offered.

I set one up for my gf the last time Best Buy ran this deal and everything was fairly straightforward. I've set up three different routers and they all were easy to set up; it seems like most routers are the same to me...

the DLINK site shows a 20 dollar MIR for the 704 and 704P but it also says NOT VALID AT BEST BUY. what are the $20 and $30 MIR being offered??

I bought the DI-704 (without print server) last time they had a similar deal. I really like it except for the firewall getting in the way sometimes. It's really easy to use and configure. I haven't used it with more than one computer, but I can't imagine it has any problems with it as it works with one computer just fine.

I got the DI-704 last time they had a similiar deal at BB. I really like it and replaced my LinkSys BEFSR41.

And I got an open box item which meant I paid something like $14.xx ARs!

Thanks! I'll be checking it out.

I have one bought from BB when they had this offer. Two computers are set with cable connection. Everything goes smoothly, easy set up. Just wondering how to test its firewall function. Anyone knows about that?

A quick and dirty test would be to go to GRC.com and run the ShieldsUp! > "Test My Shields" test. If you really want a thorough test put a machine running Nessus on the outside of the dlink and pound away at it...

does anyone know the answer to this? best buy website is down right now....

incidentally, i have one of these routers.... setup took a total of 20 minutes (including making a sandwich and being a moron) and we've had no problems...

Anyone had any problems with this Router and Windows XP? I'm using AT&T Broadband cable right now. I've heard its a pain to open up ports for stuff like NetMeeting with the firewall on this. True or not?

I have no problem using it with Win XP. As a mater of fact, I didn't have to change any parameters at all. I just hooked up the cables and it works. However, I have not try to open any ports or anything.

Nice, thanx for the notice.
ahh...the days when I used to work for BB, and could get my hands on the deals, plus the emp discount. Good times, Fond Memories....

Better check out the one rebate from D-link for $20. Looks like you cant buy it from just about any retail store i know.

Rebates at Bestbuy requires the rebate form from Bestbuy which gets printed from their registers. They are the same rebate send to the same rebate processing company in AZ but to different PO Box or have a different department number on them.
That's the case with the $50 D-link Di-713P wireless router rebate that's going on right now.

I know there are 4 ports, but is there a 5th port for the uplink to the cable modem or do you have to use one of the 4 ports?
Thanks.

Best Buy has it's own rebates as stated by Boiler above.

There is a broadband port for your DSL or Cable modem in addition to the other 4 ports.

I have this router from the last time this went on sale 3 weeks ago. I would jump on this deal. I might even get another. As for the reliablilty and ease of setup, I can't comment on that as I have yet to install this thing. Judging by the consensus, this is a decent router that is simple to use and configure.

My 2 cents. 😎

Not sure how to configure the firewall for this router but in case you need it checked out,

GRC

Explore this site and learn alot.
(course, there's only so much it can test)

Opening ports on this thing is really easy in my experience. You can use IE to communicate with the router and open ports. Router resets without you having to reset your computer.

If i'm wrong on any of this, can someone please correct me? I haven't played with opening ports very much and I still have trouble uploading to some people on AIM.

Thanks guys,
Robert.
