D-Link Gaming Router with traffic shaping?

I will be purchasing a new router soon and am looking at something pretty robust. Myself and the family have 4 desktops, multiple smart phones, iTouches, and 2 laptops that will be accessing this router primarily through the wireless connection except for 2 of the desktops. The router below has the streamboost traffic shaping I thought was intriguing. Has anybody used this or know if it actually works as well as it states?

1. The DGL-5500 is WIFI certified only as a/b/g/n and Not as ac.

2. Its alleged unique feature (Auto Shaping) was not thus far independently reviewed.

That puts it right now in the Over Prices category.

Thanks for the responses, does anybody have suggestions for a good router that might fit my needs that I stated above?
 
Depends on your budget. The ASUS higher end models are great, but you're paying for them. I've got an ASUS RT-N16, and i'd consider myself a heavy user. Something is *always* streaming, downloading, torrenting, etc in my house and it's been rock solid.
 
I've actually had better pings even while torrenting over wireless and whatnot with all the QoS jazz disabled. Just make sure the channel is clear and if too many AP's are present, disable turbo/40MHz mode. I can't imagine traffic shaping being much different.

Thats the thing about those automatic traffic shaping/QoS marketing gimmicks, they almost universally do not handle the traffic the way you want them to. They may not detect XYZ game you play and give it priority, or ABC torrent client, or worse- it may be reserving bandwidth for an incorrectly detected program on your network resulting in slower speeds for no apparent reason.

The only way to do QoS reliably is to set it up yourself on a per IP/per app basis.
 
Good information I'll take that into consideration and I'll also look into the Asus routers. I remember reading a router comparison on Anandtech a while back and the Asus router did extremely well but I can't find that article anywhere.
