D-Link DWL-520+

I am trying to install a D-Link DWL-520+ into a machine using an Asus A7V and AMD Athlon 800. The system is running Windows XP Home. I have installed the drivers on the system and then turned off the machine and installed the network card, I then rebooted and the machine goes through all the BIOS checks and when it tries to start windows the system just locks up. The hard drive light is on constant and the screen is stuck on the Windows XP splash screen. I have upgraded the motherboard BIOS to the latest version with no luck. I have also tried placing the network card in a number of different PCI slots also to no avail. When I remover the network card the machine boots in to XP no problem at all.

I have another machine with one of these cards in so I decided to swap them to see if it was a faulty card. Exactly the same thing happens and the new card works fine in my other system so I know the card is now working. It must be this machine based on the A7V having a conflict or something with this card

I am downloading the latest drivers from the D-Link website to see if that makes any difference. If not I'm stumped ! I have dispatched a tech request to D-Link also, but that may be ages before I get a reply. Also I tried starting in safe mode and it booted into windows and finished installing the card. When it restarted again it wouldn't even boot safe mode again Very frustrating and as I'm not getting any error messages I don't know what's wrong

Any ideas or known issues with this card ?

You could try calling D-Link tech support too. They're usually clueless (obviously reading from an FAQ), but they're really nice. 🙂

If there's another computer available, try installing the card in another computer. You might just have a faulty card. I installed a DWL-520+ on an ECS K7S5A without any problems. I didn't even follow their directions of installing the drivers first.

I did a search on google for "DWL-520+ Asus A7V" and I found a German (I think) thread about the two being incompatible. I think someone figured out that it has to do with the RAID controller or maybe a SB Live.

Check out my fine experiences with the D-Stink DeWindowsLoser-520+ (refers to number of hours required to get it working, and/or number of times you'll swear doing so)

D-Stink, Gift from Saddam?

BTW, I'm no networking genius, but I've made a living in IT/IS for 5 years and can follow instructions.

Thanks a lot for that, I had seen a message last night about SB cards maybe being the problem so I took it out and no luck, I then took out every other PCI card and still no luck. I then saw your message this morning about possible RAID problem. Went and had a look and HDD was on the raid controller for some reason so I swapped it back to primary IDE and you guessed it, the darn thing booted and finshed installing the card 🙂 I have been tearing my hair out the last few days with this card. Thanks very much for the lead !
