Is this like the Linksys 5 port switcher ? The thing is how does the LinkSys 5 port 10/100 switch works up to 200mbps ???? and this only 100 mbps... are we going to be seeing a whole new change in 10/100 environments that works up to 200 mbps ? Gurus ??

Anyway... does this work like the Linksys but the added advantage of being a switch as well ? Thanks

When a switch is labeled as having 200 Mbps, it is a theoretical computation and not a practical one. Full duplex means a device can both send and receive at the same time. So there could be up to 100 Mpbs transmit and 100 Mbps receive at any given instant.

200 Mbps is a misleading marketing ploy derived from adding these two numbers together. There is never actually 200 Mpbs throughput on one channel, and in practice, you will probably never get even exactly 100 Mpbs constant throughput per channel.

The way to get 200 mbps out of a 100 mbps switch is to have 2 NICs in the same PC - thus, using up TWO 100 mbps ports on the switch... one for incoming packets, one for outgoing packets... We have our mail servers set up this way.

another vote for the dlink, I bought a linksys gateway+wireless unit thinking it would be very nice and work great. All I got were lag spikes and chokes in counter strike. if you do a search this is common and not fixable, even if you put your machine as a dmz.

for now im using 704 (amit clones) etc... cheap but also seem to work the best.
