I have the "brown" case version of this, router works well, print server doesn't.
I have the same router, same version (brown). I assume you're running Win2K or WinXP and are using the D-Link's "recommended" way of controlling the Print Server (i.e. configuring Windows to use LPR printing). Disregard their suggestion and download the "printer driver software" on D-Link's web-site. Windows 2K/XP's LPR printing capabilities doesn't work well w/ the DI-704P (at least not the "Brown" version); however, D-Link's Printer Driver software works like a champ! Once installed, you have a "D-LINK:" printer port that you use.
P.S. To the person who inquired if this router has a serial port: If you can get your hands on the original version of this router (the "brown" version), it has both a SERIAL PORT and a PARALLEL PORT. The serial port is used to connect an EXTERNAL ANALOG MODEM (for dialup sharing). The Parallel port is used for Print Server purposes.
*EDIT* The BROWN version of the router comes in an older style D-Link box and has a picture of the router in a BROWN case. The new version has a picture of the router shown in a Titanium/Silver case. Click here to see a scan of the FRONT COVER of the OLD STYLE BOX.
P.S.S. This is by far the most stable router I've ever used. Works fine w/ IM programs. For direct connection (i.e. peer-to-peer) capabilities of IM programs, you need to open up the required ports and forward such requests to your PC. Very easy to do w/ the web-based configuration.
P.S.S.S. The D-Link DI-604 is a piece of crap of the first order! It's often sold for $10 - $30 AR, but IMO it's not work 1¢.
