D-Link DGL-4300 Gaming Router

I know it's a great router lol but why not just get a switch and a cheap router works the same way and you'll have more ports. I know you won't have gigabit ethernet but still...hehe most people don't go out spending $100 on a router...

i have this. it works great. it doesnt work well for VPN for my work (fixed by assigning a static IP for my work laptop and opening a few ports, linksys works without any special configuration) but works great for BT and gaming. not to mention i need gigabit to use Rremote desktop on my win2k3 server and this saves me some clutter by having a different router and gigabit switch

 for this router

Most people can get by with something cheap like that, but this router does have some nice features. The gaming priority thing apparently works fairly well... I've considering buying this so I can play xbox live or online games while bit torrenting and using eMule.

they upped the price and no more free shipping

you can get it elsewhere for about $14 less now

another minor complaint of this router i forgot to add:

reboots on every setting change! WTF.

but regardless, it is awesome if you download from BT/us3n3T and wanna game at the same time, of course i would recommend nothing less than a 3M broadband line to do all that, but this router is pretty amazing.

all the dlink routers i've used reboot all the time...

are there any gigabit routers that have more than 4 ports. I'm looking for one w/ something like 24+ ports. Hopefully it doesnt cost an arm and a leg.

I think thats a totally different class of router, and my guess is you're better off buying them seperate.

This is now up to $114 at the egg now, but the rebate is also valid at Amazon.com, Buy.com, PC Mall, , Newegg.comm eCOST.com, ZipZoomFly, Comp-U-Plus, Gateway, Computers4SURE, PROVANTAGE, PCNation.com

Why would you need Gigabit to RD into PC's over a VPN? Or even locally (Are you playing games/videos)?

my post was confusing i guess. they're not related issues

1) router does not work with contivity VPN client to VPN-out to my work unless I tinker with static IP on my work laptop and then open a few ports on port forwarding

2) router works great for gaming and BT... simultaneously

3) i need gigabit to internally RD into another personal server of mine because Im too lazy to hook up the server to my KVM. with gigabit i can play videos within the remote desktop (not full screen of course) and in general RDS "feel" faster over the gigabit line
