Not sure if the games are DRM free...maybe or maybe not. Read further down.

I'd buy this in a second if I hadn't purchased all of the games from GOG.com

Awesome games, especially Baldur's Gate. Neverwinter Nights for me never was never able to match the level of enjoyment these games provided. Extra nod to Planescape.

What is GamersGate, seems like sort of a Steam Lite?

Login and net connection required to install a game to a target system, but not to play?

Games are DRM free so mods and fan servers are supported.

The set of games was $25 last week at GoG so it's at least warm.

The benefit with GoG is that you download DRM-free setup files that don't require this bit:
> "Login and net connection required to install a game to a target system, "

With the GoG ones you know you can reinstall them 10 years from now, on anything. With this version that's iffy.

Are you saying the gamersgate version needs a special wrapper to install these games, once downloaded ? Or in other words, once downloaded, are they standalone installers for each of these games ? If not, then it smells of DRM still...

This says there IS 1-time DRM for each install on a different PC:

Can I download a game on one computer and install it on another one?

Yes, you can.

1) Copy the download file and the temp folder as they are located near each other
2) Paste on another computer that has connection to the internet
3) Run the download file and fill in the login/password if necessary
4) The installation process will start automatically, if the temporary folder is in place, since it will find the install files.

NOTE: Internet connection is required for performing the installation process. Installation cannot be made manually. It is done automatically and it requires internet connection to be performed properly.

Can I download the game on my office PC and install it on my home PC which does not have an internet connection?

No, you cannot. Internet connection is required to install games. If the target computer has slow download bandwidth, then the game can be downloaded on another computer and then transferred in any way to your original computer. There you can use them to install, but connection is needed to sign in and start the installation process.

NOTE: You should move the download file and the temporary Gamersgate folder (GamersGate temporary files) as they are placed near each other in order to install the downloaded games. Otherwise the downloader will start the download process again. Installation should be started using the download file, and it cannot be done manually from the temporary folder.

That means if the GamersGate install-time server ever shuts down, you can't reinstall.

The GoG installs are just files, with no phone-home check.

I got this anthology about a month or so ago. Problem with it is that it was very difficult, if not impossible to use some of the mods for BG1 and 2 due to the way the games are installed. I was finally able to get the widescreen mod to work on BG1, but I had to do several installs and I believe a workaround, but can't recall exactly what I did.

I didn't have any problems installing EasyTutu on it.

I first went here, http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,28015.msg328907.html
and put the BGate2.mpi file in the Baldur's Gate 2 directory as suggested.
Then I downloaded and installed EasyTutu.

I've played a couple of hours and the only bug that I've encountered is that the game would crash when I equipped a weapon in the offhand. Stepping the resolution down one notch from 1280x960 to 1024x768 fixed that.

I'd be all over this if I didn't already have the games. If anyone has interest, I fully support buying this. I've spent so many good hours with these games.

I'm not crazy about a new Baldur's Gate game though. Some things just shouldn't be touched if they aren't done right and I really question if that is possible.
