D²OL stats 10/23

Ok I'll start off with the bad news. My attempts at creating a Windows 98 service install that would run the client without the icon in the system tray have failed. I was able to manually edit the registry to get it to run as a service but that darn icon just wouldn't go away. Looks like I won't be able to assimilate my brothers XP 1800+ and Athlon 700.

Now on to the good news. Since the conclusion of the ECCP-109 project the team has started to grow in leaps and bounds. Today we welcome 6 new members to the team which are highlighted in bold in the team stats. Be sure to give them a big welcome.

Also we are now within 200 cands of passing California Redwoods for 14th place and we are consistently 3rd in production. WTG! Lets shoot for first in the daily stats!

This is also the first day for our new stats I hope you guys like them. Meremortal has put a lot of effort into them and they are looking great. Unfortunately due to an error on my part the stats for today reflect production that is closer to 46 hours than 24 hours. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have it right and the stats will be for exactly 24 hours. So without further adou here they are!

GideonTech is showing such high production because they just moved into the top 25 and so they weren't included in the last stats run.

I hadn't noticed chipsters output...sadly...it might be too little too late to hold onto #2 for him...unless he devotes more of his fleet to an immediate defense of his position

I see that Daavo, is really kickin some butt also...good job

Well Im happy to say I completed a transaction about an hour ago to pickup a couple Tualatin 1.2 and motherboard and ram, so hopefully by this time next week there will be a couple more nodes added for the TeAm.. I think Im going to try Linux on these.

He might just do that. He had some of his fleet working on eccp109 to catch up/keep up with me

I took a class on Linux and still don't really understand it. I also failed spanish so I guess you could say Linux is like a foriegn language to me.

I also do more than one project. My D2OL production is in addition to about 20WU/day in SETI.

RE: My "Fleet" mentioned in above posts.

It only consists of 3 computers and only one of those is really able to run D2OL effectively because of memory and/or sneakernetting issues. My Athlon XP 1800+ is now on the D2OL active list.

BTW: Can D2OL be sneakernetted? I don't recall that it could be when I first started but that was some time ago.

Read through some of the docs we wrote in the OS forum, or some of the threads there. If there are any specific Linux questions people had in trying to setup one of these clients I can try to help, but I havent setup d2ol on linux yet so I might not be able to help a whole lot.

Well, chances are you will have problems with the Linux client for D2OL (through no fault of your own). They apparently compiled the client linking to shared C++ libraries instead of making a static build. So unless you happen to have the same version of this library on your distribution of linux the client won't run properly. It will start ok, but it will run through candidates quickly without doing any work.

If you are running the linux client and see this behavior, you are going to need to install libstdc++3-3.0.4 libraries. If your distribution uses a package manager you can use it to see what you have installed. For example on Red Hat systems type rpm -qa | grep libstdc++

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, just ask, or visit the D2OL forums. They are supposed to be working on a compiling with a newer version of gcc (3.2??) but when they will actually get that done and if it will work are good questions. But once you get it working it is 25-75% faster on a given processor than the windows version.
