Google allows apps that require root into the Play Store so there isn't as much need for an alternate app store on Android.

Plus you can sideload apps all you want.... wait unless AT&T or whatever locks you down.... but in general Android is capable of this.

You mean like an app depository that lists apps that require root? Or a depository that lists apps that you can get for free?

on my phone on android only 27% of my apps are paid. All the other ones are freeware. And almost all the tweaks/root-required tools are also on Market, so I'm not sure what this thing would really do..

209 total, 152 free (72%), 57 paid (27%)

Why would you do that? Most of the apps in the regular market are free (add supported) or really cheap. Even the most expensive GPS apps are only about 20 quid.

You're looking in the wrong place. A lot of apps, especially medical ones, are $50 or more.

If they're serious medical apps, you'd think that $50 would be a trivial amount to pay. I sure wouldn't take the chance at my health over $50.

Exactly, if it's a real medical app and not just some cheesy heart-rate monitor that uses the camera lens to guess at your bpm I don't see how $50 is an unreasonable price.

i think the fact that Installous was established so quickly within a few months of opening of the App Store is amazing.

I don't condone pirating, but it's amazing we don't have a good system like that on Android...

What's more amazing is the amount of effort people will put into pirating things that cost a dollar or two...
