I often come to PN first thing to check out the political news. Sometimes people post things I might be unlikely to trip over. Sometimes people have good points.

Lately I have been irritated by the lack of critical thinking. Content is seriously lacking, and it's time to go if not forever, then for a while.

The problem, as I see it, is not that you come here, but that you come here "first to check out the political news" . Why not try taking advantage of ATP&N as a place to converse about politics and news after you have done some legit research on a topic.

I guess if it leaving in a "cold turkey" fashion is the only way you can break yourself from an obviosuly bad habit, then by all means.

And I have participated. When I say I come on to check out the news, it's in the morning before work, when I check out weather etc. I usually give more thoughtful responses later in the day. The hostility factor here (inherent to some degree in political discourse) simply is tiring. If it ever becomes a more civil place I will probably come back, but that remains to be seen.

I find that anytime someome tries to start an inteligent discussion you get the thread-crappers trying to divert the content,
or the 'rips' just attempting to take it over - without any real thought, or the personal attackers because they're really that dense.

I'm to a point where if the thread is a 'rip-original' I pass it by - not interested in his trolling.
Unfortunately he get's into other people's threads with his bullshit and ruins those too.
Once he comes in and spews his drivel, I usually won't return to that lost thread, and I sure as hell will not respond to him any further -
it's like trying to reason with a grapefruit.

I still review things & start threads to probe the 'though-o-sphere' - but I'm finding a serious lack of intelligent life on this planet.

I think we are losing some great forum members and for people to use this as an opportunity to get their last few shots in, whether it be directed at CW, WS or americans is dispicable.

Personally i think the forums will not be complete without these bright and intelligent minds. We should be taking this time to reflect why they are leaving rather than look at it on an individual level.

I have watched these forums run rampant with ignorant loudmouths with no intention of discussing but to get their daily fill of arguing/forum bashing. I have to agree with the underlying principles of these departures, however i don't really support the result.

CW has notified me of a new forum...I hope WS will make a presence there as well.
I look forward to stimulating conversations in the future with these very members.

General attitude of brainwashing and unwillingness to accept critism of those beliefs/ideals, no matter what side of the fence you are on.
Many are not willing to look for any compremise or way out of the quagmire that they are in, prefering to just point a finger without coming up with workable solutions.
