Cyclist broke off my mirror today

I was at a stop light today and a cyclist broke off my mirror today while I was at a red light. Completely his fault and he acknowledged it. Luckily a sheriff was nearby and got both of our information. He then dispatched a police officer and we filed a police report and agreed to settle this without going thru insurance(hes a cyclist and doubt he has any kind of insurance). So I call the dealer and find out a replacement mirror with installation is $700. I texted the guy an hour ago and he hasn't responded but my question is what should I do if I get no response? I have his first/last name, address, phone number and found his Instagram/Facebook. I will call this guy in a bit but if his just 'disappears' I'm going to get fucking pissed. Every time I get into some accident it's never my fault and the asshole that caused it never has insurance either.

Anything I can do in case he doesn't respond?

Thanks

Brand new 2017 CRV with blind spot monitoring. This is what the dealer is quoting me. Can I get it cheap somewhere else? I thought this car was too new to find OEM parts for.

Well my deductable is 500, so I'm not sure if it is worth it to file a claim if my premium goes up. I will call my insurance tomorrow to find out. Good idea on the small claims court, I have a ton of info on the bastard as well as 2 police reports from the sheriff and the local PD in the next city over.

I spoke to him a few hours ago over the phone, and he said he would pay the entire amount but can't, only in payments. Funny thing is he doesn't respond to any of my text messages and also mention he was lucky the police did not run a report on him as he has a few things on his 'record'.

Ughhh

This isn't going to turn out well.

Similar thing happen. A parked car opened their door and knocked my side mirror clear off while I was just driving down my lane. I did not have to pay since I was fully insured. Since the sheriff was there for your situation, there's plenty of evidence it wasn't your fault, unless you weren't in your lane, aka car was in the bike lane, if there was one. So I suppose it depends on your policy.

Try calling a body shop? Dealers will mark shit up like crazy, and sell it to shops for like 50% off. Wanted $700 + labor for a part on my car, independent shop got it to me for $380 installed. Same OEM part picked up from a dealer.

All of the google pictures of that vehicle show body colored mirrors. Does that not mean paint required? It's not like they tend to stock replacement body parts pre-painted. Generally you order a part, and it must be painted with installation.

When I stop at a light, and cyclists are behind me, I pull with a couple of inches of the curb so they can't pass me on the right to go through the intersection. Not to protect my mirror, but so I don't have to get around them again in traffic. About 1 out of 3 will pass on the right and run the red light.

OEM means original equipment manufacturer in this case Honda. If Honda can put this up for sale it only makes sense that they have parts available for it.

I owned a '94 Isuzu Rodeo once, bought it from a woman I knew for very little money. It was pretty rough and needed some TLC. I fixed up all the little things that were wrong with it, including a broken passenger side door mirror. Dealer wanted $700 for a new door mirror, which I thought was a ridiculous amount so I called and found one in a junkyard for $150. It was so easy to install, pop off a trim panel, three bolts held it on and a simple plastic wire connector for the power adjustment. Took less than five minutes for me to swap them.

God that car was a piece of shit though.

You can paint them yourself. I had good results doing this myself on a Nissan I used to own. I bought the primer, paint and clear coat in a rattle can and did both door mirrors myself. It wasn't difficult and the results were impressive.
