Ripped from Techbargains.
Cyberwings is having a 50% off sale for the next 200 web hosting accounts. They're selling 110MB space, 6GB transfer per month for just $3.90 PER YEAR!

Just ordered plan number five from them, anyone have any experience with them? Can't really lose when it's only $3.90 for a year!

I just saw this on TB too and ordered...I thought for $3.90 a year...I won't be losing much if its crappy

Has anyone dealt with them before?

I ordered but damn, it wants another domain name... haha.. oh well i wanted another one anyway 🙂 Here comes godaddy 🙂

I use Cyberwings, and love them. Best deal on the internet for hosting. I just hope all these new signups don't affect the level of service I've been getting! 😛

i just signed up too! had to get another name from godaddy but man thats $13 (8.59 + 3.90) for a year with name... nice!

Thanks. I needed low cost hosting for 2 lightly used domains I have. This will save me a bunch over the more expensive hosting I've been using.

I've been with them for about 4 months with everythingeverything.com. I haven't really done anything with the site, I just use the emails and use it as a place for me to host pics and other files. I haven't had any problems. Also, all you new signups will be hosted on Plesk servers, I'm still on a Cobalt Raq. The Plesk CP is supposed to be better than Cobalt's.

First of all, for $3.90 a year, I completely agree that this is a "what the hell" kind of thing. Even if they take your $3.90 and head for the border, you're not out that much.

That said: There is absolutely no possible way these guys can make money hosting a web site for $4 a year, unless you have absolutely no traffic. You can be certain that they are overselling their servers like crazy. I certainly would not place anything of any importance on a site with them, and you should fully be prepared to have to move in a few months.

i can't find anything that says how long they've been around.. anyone know for sure...?

also, it looks like they charge you $10 for every cgi script you want to install. there is no telnet/SSH access, and never will be. (they claim SSH is a major security risk... telnet, maybe... but SSH...?)

i'm still thinking about this one...

I didn't have a domain to give them at the time. Hope my order goes through!
BTW, where's the cheapest place/way to register for a domain?

Cyberwings does domain registration too for $9.95 for 1 year. When I had signed up, it was only $6.95/year. Wish I had reg'd for a few more years back then.

GODADDY It's $8.95/year

Does anyone know where I can host .NET sites for real cheap with SQL 2000 support too ?

Help would be appreciated

No idea. Like someone else said, for $4 I'll take a chance and see how they do.

<< also, it looks like they charge you $10 for every cgi script you want to install. there is no telnet/SSH access, and never will be. (they claim SSH is a major security risk... telnet, maybe... but SSH...?) >>

If they provide you with a local shell account of any sort, there is a security risk. They aren't saying no SSH because it is insecure, but rather no SSH because if you have shell access to their server there is a risk you will find a way to get root access and do something to the server.

I jumped on it as soon as I saw it. Been looking to move one of my sites anyway, and this fills the need nicely.
