My e-mail to Lightship:

I'm having hosting by a customer of yours. This company seems to be having major issues with service and they are not providing any information to its customers. The have just finished major sales and now these problems. You have been given as a reason for the problems.

I would like to know if Cyberwings (www.cyberwings.com) the owner is Shawn J White is met their financial obligation with you. Have you taken action to convince Cyberwings meet their obligation to you?

Thanks

Thank you for your correspondence regarding Cyberwings, your internet service provider, to which Lightship Telecom provides some internet and related services.

Lightship acknowledges your issues with Cyberwings, and we regret that jointly we have been unable to resolve them.

Lightship Telecom is confident in our ability to provide high quality and reliable internet access, web-hosting and co-location services to
business customers throughout New England. We have many customers to whom we provide these services on a direct and wholesale basis who do not experience these problems.

Additionally, we believe that we have worked in good faith with Cyberwings in the past to assist them in resolving their technical issues.

However, at this time, given their publicly stated plans and our current business relationship, we do not expect that additional efforts will be
made to rectify any service issues outstanding between the companies.

We regret any inconvenience this has caused you or your business.

Please contact Lightship should you require further assistance.

Sincerely,

Lightship Telecom

Shawn had a meeting with LightShip today... Everything will be resolved on MONDAY. This email reply was sent WHILE Shawn was in the meeting with LightShip. So I wouldn't put any faith into the message.

If CW and LS is so in love again why wouldn't they just turn the pipe back on immediately? What magically happens on Monday. This crap about confidentiallity...I'm so sick and tired of that. You would think these companies were Microsoft and Sun.

None of this makes since. CW pays LS and LS is happy and keeps the pipe open. No company (Lightship) would cut off a paying company even if CW was talking about leaving them. There's still a contract binding the two companies. If Lightship was in breach Shawn would be suing them and not negotiating with them. Also he would just switch over to another provider to keep his customers happy. By his own words he has the capital for CW. He a self made successful business man and money isn't an issue. Remember he was threatening (implied) to sue people here on Anandtech a couple of weeks ago so if he going to do that certain he would sue LS if they were in breach.

I'm not particularly partial to either side but I do know when I'm being lied to. Stop the BS and get the service restored!

Being lied to and kept in the dark just makes me very grouchy! :|

I'm also wondering why waiting until Monday is so crucial (other than it's a holiday weekend)?

Maybe CEO Shawn has an ace card up his sleeve and really good begging skills, I guess we'll find out in a few days.

Shawn did mention that due to the holidays, the execs may have been out of down for the weekend...

I used to be a pretty staunch supporter of them, but when you have a day+ outage (supposedly planned) outage you need to at the very least notify your customers. Saying "check the webpage" and IRC chat daily for status is BULLSH!T. I only pay pennies a month and dont expect 100% uptime but I do expect for them to get off their lazy asses to setup a mass email to inform me about a prolonged planned outage.

they are a POS company.

i can't believe with all the smart people here (no facetiousness intended) that nobody saw this coming (aside from me of course 😀).

eek, this is a sad sad soap opera of a corporate demise.

As the credits roll on this, hopefully I will have my money back, it will say.

Who knows.. was CEO Shawn really trying to create a massive community of friendly seventeen year old webmasters or was he really mining techie gullability and sending the proceeds to his offshore amway account. Only one man knows, and he is bound by a privacy agreement.

From the cwsitestatus.com page:

Below are the comments made in chat session at approximately noon EDT on July 8, 2002, by Shawn J. White. For a transcript of the complete session while Shawn was in the room, and for previous logs of chat sessions and newsletters, please click here

CEO-Shawn: Talks with LS are not going well, services are not
active at this moment. I may be flying to Maine immediately to pickup
our servers and plug them back in in Virginia tonight. We already have
Class C's in Virginia ready to roll. Not sure yet how things will turn
out, but we are all HOT under the collars today.

CEO-Shawn: I need to get back to my meetings, will stop in to
update everyone as soon as I can again. I am so hot under the collar
today with these matters - this is utterly ridiculous at this point.
Action will be taken immediately.

CEO-Shawn: Nothing set in stone yet, but we're looking at that
option, yes. The Virginia DC will be 100x better anyway, honestly.
Dual T3 Lines and one 100MBit Line, TRUE 24/7 On Site Support with techs
who can assist 24/7, etc.

CEO-Shawn is COMPLETELY ignoring all those naysayers out there - you all can just stop commenting because I'm not taking ANYTHING you say into consideration. I am out for the best interest of this company and your negative comments are not going to drag me or this company down!

CEO-Shawn: We have been STEADILY been providing information to our customers for 3-4 days now. We do not legally need to subject ourselves to vulgarity or personal threats, and will not put up with that. EVERY person who gets vulgar or launches personal threats against ANYONE here will be kicked/banned and have their IP Mask information recorded.

So is there anyone else here who, like me, isn't a Cyberwings customer, but finds these threads amusing and continues to read 'em? 😀

How the heck do you contact them for a refund?

I sent them a strongly worded letter via snail mail (registered with delivery confirmation), he's not going to steal my $29.50 from me.

I'd rather have 2 Dixiesys.com hosting accounts which are online than 8 CyberWings accounts which never/rarely work.

I am free as a little bird, Shawn caved and gave me my refund in full today. I only hope that I can stop reading all fo tehse posts in various locations now that my part of the soap opera is over. What a ripoff and boy do I feel relieved.

good luck crusaders, I witnessed more information today in chat that only made me laugh at this point. Shawn said he just got his biometric scan todayforthe new data center and the lines will be live tomorrow. What I pictured as he wrote this on the screen was a chubby guy on his couch whose "biometric scan" was the cheeto stain left on his shirt as he watched the TV and plugged away with his AOL account in some IRC chatroom.

Good Luck, I am out.

ROTFLMAO esp at the "biometric scan" thing, you're lucky I wasn't drinking anything otherwise it'd be all over my keyboard.
