Hows the performance of Bugless Beast? There was this strange lag in Cyanogen. For example, a text message would come in, I'd quick reply in Handcent and it'd take several seconds to come up and send it. In the interim, it would nearly freeze up. I couldn't enter a browser, handcent, maps, nothing.

I can't comment on bugless beast, but smoked glass feels very fast.

Bateleur, have you tried minfreemanager? It lets you tweak how android manages memory. Between this and automatic task killer, I rarely manually kill a task.

What are you using currently?

Is there still consensus that Cyanogen Mod is where it is at? Or, have some of the other mods caught up and made some major strides?

I spoke with the developer of Titanium Backup and now have working backups for all my data, so I'm ready to make the switch. I'd do it with what I had planned last time, Simply Stunning 2.0.1 (android 2.1, ESE53), but that is now out of date and quite a few ROMs have updated since then, not to mention Cyanogen Mod is gaining quite a few supporters as time marches on.

And this theme is almost done! I cannot wait, as soon as it's available I am giving it a spin and determining if I like it in hands-on use as much as I like it in screen shots. The minimalism approach is just beautiful.
He mentioned working on other trim colors in the future. As much as blue gets overused at times, I love a minimal amount of blue trim as opposed to green/yellow.

I'm using Smoked Glass 6.0. I think I prefer it to Simply Stunning. You get lots of options during the install process for what you want and don't want. It's hard to say how much of it is just perception or reality, but it feels faster and cooler than when I was using Simply Stunning.

The whole time I used Simply Stunning, it seemed bug free. Since using Smoked Glass, I had one instance where the phone turned off for some reason. That's the only "issue" I've had with it.

The minimalism deal you linked looks awesome.

edit: Also, live wallpapers seem to not lag the app tray as much. New version of maps has a map live wallpaper. Pretty neat.

Just installed the Smoked Glass 6.0.1 rom. Anybody know where I can find the Clock/Weather/Date widget running in all the screen shots of it? < Dumb question probably.

Weather widget donate. I don't know what the differences are between the free and paid version.

Thanks.

Been messing with Smoked Glass all day. Seems to be pretty speedy so far, unlike Cyanogen Droid, even with stock clocks. :)

Going to hold onto it for a while. I love the 3D gallery, but I do miss the 3D app tray. Smoked Glass doesn't have it yet.

Did you install helix launcher? Can't remember if it was an option or something I installed separately.

I need to install it from the Market. Tried it before, with the stock 2.0.1, seemed unstable, got a lot of FCs with it.

It's been rocksolid so far with a caveat: turn off autorotate if you're using live wallpaper.

I don't know if it was the particular one I was using, but the combo did not behave.

I love live wallpapers, but they make the phone lag too much. I'm going to test my Droid with Smoked Glass Blue for a few days before trying to bump up the Cortex clocks to a conservative 800Mhz, then try the live wallpapers again.

The only lag I notice is with the apple tray (which I hate).

It's there (for me) no matter what clock speed. But the lag is not as bad with smoked glass as it was with some of the other roms. It's probably livable, just depends on how picky you are.

Just wiped, flashed Cyanogen Mod (and the new recovery for it), and am in the process of restoring all my previous apps and data (Titanium Backup works, the dev helped point me in the right direction).

I'll let you know how it is tomorrow after getting some time to customize it and see how it feels.

first note:
this Launcher 2 build (which I guess is basically the same as HelixLauncher2 ?) is just awesome. I like the dock idea, looking forward to a potential future capability to mod the dock icons only (might just change the actual icons to get that reflected in the dock in the near term). Always used some home replacement that gave me apps on the bottom, Home++ with an awesome theme was the last one. This so far is very stable, but I haven't done much.

edit:
Cyanogen Mod 5.0.5 btw

default kernel (max 1ghz):
BenchmarkPi consistently around 2700ms.
