Hi!
I need some info on this mobo. Belongs to HP Pavillion XL766 (although CPU marks 733) I'm trying to fix (video is a mess).Description as follows:

CUV-NT rev 1.04
NB: VIA VT82C694X
SB: VIA VT82C596B
Video: onboard Nvidia Riva TNT2 64
Bios chip: CVNT 1.01 (???)
AGP x 1
PCI x 4
Weird... video on board but not the sound 😕 no jumpers showed to disconnect onboard video.

As video is a mess, how...
1. Can I disconnect the onboard video?
2. Flash the bios ???

Your guru's expertice is always appreciated!!! 🙂

Ugh...ASUS CUV-NT OEM board.

This one is difficult, because there are several versions of the board with the same name, with different items onboard. There are some versions with onboard video and AGP slot, onboard video without AGP slot, different onboard video (some nVidia TNT2 M64, others ATI RAGE), some with sound and others without.

Onboard video should be disabled in the BIOS, if I remember correctly.

You will get no support from ASUS, ASUS provides support and BIOSes for their retail boards only. If you want to flash the BIOS, you will need to get it from HP.

Thanks for the fast answer!
It's an Nvidia video (no sound on board ??!!!) . I think its a problem with the Bios, 'cause video is a mess from the posting, just colors..characters unreadable also if I press F1 or F10 to get in the Bios.
One weird thing ... once it get into W98 screen (hardly noticeable) if I move the mouse, it "erase" where the pointer moves!!!
I have never seen this before:Q

Anyone has seen this problem before?

What you describe sounds more like a zapped trace or something on the motherboard.

Thanks again Andy!
I have no clue what's the problem or its cause.
Does Brand OEM board has a "parity" retail board (with same specs)?
Could be a CUV-xxx retail board matching the CUV-NT???

One last thing: I was using the factory restore disks and didn't even read it.
If I use an AGP card for video, does it deactivate the onboard video?(it has no jumpers to do that)

ps: HP computer cases (Pavillion) are hard to work.Almost no space inside (only 1/4 inch between ram sticks & HDD;IDE rack for CD ROMS & HDD very stiffed & hard to pull out from case; very messy cables array. It will be a good idea for the reviews on this site to check this point for us the weekenders-fix-my-own-pc's.

There is no retail board matching the CUV-NT. It's an OEM only design.

An AGP card in the slot should disable the onboard video.
