I got these lido steel closet rod, its h0ll0w but i need to cut them to size for the closet.

Whats the best way ? the guy at home depot said hack saw.. but i figure it might take too long.. i have a table saw also... but never cut steel before, and not sure if its a good idea to use something that as the blade made snap off ?

so any recommendations ? dremel ?

specs are these, but steel not brass..

It's hollow (I hope) and use a hack saw.

EDIT
Hallow is a word usually used as a verb, meaning "to make holy or sacred, to sanctify or consecrate, to venerate". The adjective form hallowed, as used in The Lord's Prayer, means holy, consecrated, sacred, or revered. ...

You want to buy a fine tooth blade for metal.

pipe cutter

The problem with a hacksaw would be your inability to hold it without distorting the pipe.

A dremel would work poorly, but it would work.

Maybe copper, but he's talking about a steel pipe. There should be no problem with it distorting.

You can also toss a metal blade on your table saw. generally though, that will make a mess out of your saw. I have 2 cutoff saws and a plasma cutter if I need to hack up some pipe. If you will be doing a bunch of cuts, a 12" metal cutoff saw can be had from the $50 range.

<edit>
Sorry, I just saw that this is for a closet rod. What a joke. You could do that in about 30 seconds with a hack saw.

a good hack saw with a fresh blade & considerable tension.

10 minutes of elbow grease, it'll be done.

of course you've got to clamp it right, too.

hmm ... saw the spec & was thinking brass.

STEEL - 15 minutes of elbow grease ?

We're talking a closet rod here with a thickness of .08. A hack saw is going go through it like butter.

This is not a steel pipe, this is a closet rod. I may have over estimated with 5 minutes of work, more like 1.

Hollow steel rod? Wouldn't that be a pipe?

I doubt it's anywhere near schedule 40 thickness. A 24TPI high speed steel hacksaw blade should work. If you have lots of parts or need a square edge I'd suggest a medium sized tubing cutter with a 1/2" wheel. It won't take many turns to cut that stock especially if it's 16gauge or thinner.

What are you guys thinking? This is ATOT! Obviously, he needs to go to a metal fabricator and spend $1500 for setup on a CnC machine that is properly calibrated for techno geek closets.

...dude...it's a closet rod, not a weight bar. :p
