Cutting Cable need help on what to use

I will be trying to use a anntena some time next week to see how good it works.
If we can get good reception I will then look at getting rid of cable.

I have a PS 3, and a AV reciver, but want to be able to rip my blue ray disc to a media PC.
I am not sure of what software I will need to do this along with the O.S.

I like the idea of not buying a O.S. but my typing skill and spelling has goten bad over the years and need somthing my wife can use too.

I don't want to skimp on the hardware but not sure what I should be looking for that will be reliable and work good.

Both really, what hardware should I use, what software do I need. I am guessing win 7 O. S.
Not sure what other software I will need.

I don't want to run into a problem with Not being able to read the media and not being able to rip it onto the HD

Just run wibdows 7 home ultimate. You can rip bluray with a bunch of available tools, even free ones. Then transcode with handbrake. Just get a decent cpu.

You will of course need an atsc tuner card.

Here's my setup, it works fairly well for me.
I use a HDHomeRun Dual as my tuner. Its a network attached dual tuner, not the PCIe kind. I use Windows Media Center (free w/ Win 7), to record live TV to my PC, but I use my xbox 360 as a media center extender to watch the recorded TV. I found a free program (I think it's called MCEBuddy), which will convert the proprietary wtv records to mp4, which can then be viewed w/ other "normal" video apps, IE through your PS3

I Received a HD Home run dual tuner yesterday and am tried it out on my PC.
I was hoping It could record and watch at least one show at the same time. But It cant.
My wife has times when there are three shows on at the same time that she wants to see.

Other than not being able to record more than one show at a time I noticed the signal digitized a lot on some channels.
I did not get a Amp and a Mohu Leaf antenna do to the good reviews it had not sure it going to a traditional antenna would work better.
Or if running this one up to the attic would help much.

Other solution I see for recording more than one show would be to get a tivo but that would cost me a monthly fee.
Buy the time I pay for Tivo ,hula plus and netflix my savings get a lot less.

A single HDhomerun can record two shows at a time, or record one and play another. Not sure why you're saying it can't. What are your computer specs? Are you using all wired networking? Get two HDhomeruns, and you have 4 tuners to play with.

You need a better antenna, or a better location for the current antenna. The Hdhomerun app will show you signal strength, so you can play with it a little to see where it works best.
