Cutting an 80cond IDE cable...

will truncating the end (black) off of it affect the way BIOS detects the drive speed mode? Keeping the blue connector connected to the mobo and the middle gray hooked to the hdd set as master. From what I have read, it won't matter as long as the drive isn't on CS (cable select) mode.

Just want to get rid of the excess cable.....

that will work fine.... just make sure you use a sharp razor or else you won't get a clean cut and bare wire could stick out.

I do it to 40cond cables all the time. I use and exacto knife or razor. Works great! As long as you make a clean cut as mentioned before.

Thanks guys.

Theres no way to cut an 80 conductor cable cleanly, too close together. Ive tried it many times - nothing but
trouble. look at your cut with a magnifying glass. Serial ATA is 3 mo away. The first serial ATA mobo is already
out (Legends)

Yes, that is the key, cut pushing down instead of pulling a knife along. I did mine with a big carving knife and a hammer, just laid it across the ribbon and whacked it.
