Why would you post a video that doesn't actually demonstrate what this thread is about?

It looks like you live somewhere very filthy. Not suprised that you have spider problems. Enjoy your stay.

It was my garage :hmm:

Why would you post a video that doesn't actually demonstrate what this thread is about?

Because I went through a lot of effort to record the video and I wanted to post it even though it didn't work out :colbert::colbert::colbert: Besides, a certain member here needs instruction on how to kill a spider.

I have no explanation for this, sorry :( Not my darts :awe:

Seriously? Because you're torturing whatever you're killing instead of just killing it instantly? Not that I give a fuck about spiders, just saying.
Get a grip.

Anyway, I don't kill spiders personally. They take care of other bugs around the house, you should keep them around. They bother me when I see them, but I just scoop them up and chuck them outside. The only exception is white-tailed spiders (NZ's only venomous spider), which I squish on sight.

I did that with a sizeable carpenter ant. Completely severed the thorax, and half the abdomen. The little bastard kept crawling forward with his two remaining legs. It was extremely unsettling. This is why the insects will win; they are unkillable.

This reminds me of a story I read about a mine clearing robot that was being tested for the army. The robot was like a caterpillar with multiple legs that would set off the mines. It would lose a leg for each mine and just keep going. They were showing a test to some brass and the robot and gone through most of it legs and was just dragging itself along with its last 2 legs. Apparently it was a very unsettling sight and a general had them end the test at that point.

So people that throw lobsters into boiling water are sociopaths in the making?

Puppies != spiders.

having worked in various labs with different model organisms, this is hilariously, albeit hypocritically true when it comes to the type of protests you get from "animal-rights" folks.

basically, the level of "cuteness" of the critter has everything to do with what how much these people care regarding your research on any type of animal.

massacring hundreds of baby mice/day for cancer research? EVIL!
massacring thousands of fruit flies/day for research in selection? ...meh.

this is true for any type of insect vs vertebrate, and up into mammals.

There has always been an argument for "sentience" amongst different critters, I guess, but that argument is becoming thinner and thinner, tbh.
