i've got a thermaltake xaser iii and while i love the case, i hate the stupid metal grills they have blocking the airflow for all the fans. the blowhole fan is really bad - even tho i've got a decent fan on it, it won't even move a piece of kleenex 'cause all the air is blowing right back into the case!

anyway, i want to get my dremel out and cut off all the metal grills, but i'm wondering if i need to worry at all about emi. how much emi does a pc put out, anyway? if i make holes in the case will i be exposing myself to all kids of nasty radiation?

thanks,

joe

Emi, radiation... what the heck? You think aluminum blocks radiation? Hehe, a case is just an enclosure, it doesn't prevent stuff from leaking.

lol ... EMI from a PC? You get more cooking popcorn in the Microwave then you would using your PC.

anyway ...

the case it for dust and damage prevention ... not shielding radiation ...

lol my pc is 12" thick of solid steel. Weighs 400 pounds and can't be upgraded because the side cover is too heavy to remove.

ok, smart guys, you made your point ... but then why do all case specs highlight the emi properties of the case?!

Prolly due to the limted emi which may affect other applainces/electronics nearby very slightly. I wouldn't worry too much about yourself though.

probably because they do offer, at least some limited, sheilding/protection from emi from everything else around the PC, and offer some limited protection for your other components too. And I don't know that I have seen any case advertisments that "highlight" EMI protection... "Our case provides 800% more EMI protection than Brand X's case!!" A mention is hardly a highlight...

Wtf emi? Dude, its a pc, not a nuclear reactor. I"ve hacked cases to death and nothing strange happens with it having more holes to the outside world, Cut off those grills and give that pc some air.
