cutoff point for barber versus men's stylist?

i have hair that's roughly 6-7" long on top of the head, tapering down to about an inch long at the back... that needs to be cleaned up.

it's done up in a sort of messy tom selleck mane. i like the style, it's just a bit long.

to get to this point, i had a simple men's parted haircut that got long, so i started combing it back. natural cowlicks, so my hair assumes its own shape.

who do i go to?

I don't even know where to start with this.

1. Man card. Hand it in now.
2. Why do you have a crying emo kid in your avatar?
3. ???

You have longer hair, you need a stylist. A standard men's barber won't know how to properly cut it.

You look just like one of my friends. You probably need someone who is competent, which cpuld be a barber or a stylist.
Any random person can do a good job, but even a good stylist can mess up your 'do

I would just ask around and see who is good at cuting / shaping longer hair

whoever you end up going too, make sure you go there with your hair the way you want it to be, that they know you want it that way and that you only want it trimmed a little and cleaned up just a little.

Stress just a little. Many come in for haircuts when they should have had like 5-6 already and bitch more when it's not cut enough than too much.

if the product they put in your hair didn't come out of a clear tub of blue/green goop, they're probably a hair stylist.

i'm not asking if a place is a barber or stylist 0.o

i tried looking on local sites for stylists in san diego that do men's hair, but i get met with a lot of information that i don't know how to take.

guess i'll try sinking $20 on a shop that looks about halfway between barber and stylist.

gay man or woman = stylist
straight man = barber

gay man or woman = stylist
straight man = barber

wow, you can sum up human sexuality so easily?

funny... i thought what made someone gay was actually, umm... liking the same gender sexually?
