examples

DISH network 800-333-DISH Press 0 in response to all prompts (about 4 times). Transferred to a human or given an estimated wait time.

Travelocity 888-872-8356 #,#,#,#,#,#,#,#,#,# (ignoring "I'm sorry I did not understand" messages)

Qwest 800-244-1111 Say "Agent" 5 times.

Dell 888-560-8324 00, 0, 0, 0

Cool, whenever it's those annoying "tell me how I can help you" things I always just say "I want to talk to somebody" twice and get put right through.

Most times just pressing 0 will also get to to someone.

the whole time i worked at dell they had some consultants trying to figure out how to have the phone system work better.

much of the problem, i felt, was that the system didn't ask easy to understand questions right from the get go to route properly. (would you like to buy something? press 1. do you need help? press 2)

the other problem was that people working in various departments didn't really know where a call should be routed if the call were misrouted. my laptop's service tag misrouts me. i bought it from dell home and for some reason i always end up in small biz.

i wrote out a phone system map and tried to get people to look at it, but no one paid any attention. unlike my suggestion for the (then unused) XPS brand.
