My guess is that she ran to dump the things she shoplifted and only face an assault charge while coming off as a victim herself.

To be known as a shoplifter is probably more demeaning to her. So she choose it this way and poor grandpa had to eat the knuckle sandwich.

Did you not read the part where it stated she had receipts for everything?

exactly what i did

It's funny how those shopping at WalMart protest so much about showing their receipts.

It's not like their time matters nor are they anyone important.

Still to Norstroms or the like if you want to play baller.

I was told by an attorney once that if a store security guard or store employee asks to search you, you can say: "I did not not steal anything but I'll wait here for you to call the police to come to make an arrest and I'll sue for false arrest if you are wrong." Obviously, a store security guard cannot search you without your consent.

Well neither have a right to search you unless you are talking about the bags / receipt issue and even then only if it's one of the stores like costco where you agreed to that.

well, color me surprised...

There was a sticky here for months; I thought everyone get the message. We will not tolerate racist types of remarks. -Admin DrPizza

You can politely decline to show your receipts. I just say "no thank you" at Best Buy all the time. They can call the police if they really think you stole something, but otherwise they don't actually care.

That said, this woman deserves some jail time.

Exactly, I decline and just keep walking. I had a guy write down my license plate once, but that was about the extent of it. Honestly, I'd wait and call the police before I physically tried to harm a guy who is just trying to keep his job. The only reason I would take it that far is because I feel the search would be unreasonable. I purposely do not shop at stores that have a receipt must be shown while leaving policy.

*Actually I just realized I do have a sams club membership because my wife buys some bulk stuff there...so I'm a hypocrite.

In places like those you have to show it as it's in the contract you signed usually.

Yea, I haven't yet bought anything there. My wife goes there a lot. Which is why I called myself a hypocrite, because I do support a "must show receipt" business. If I ever went there with my wife, I would indeed show my receipt without issue.

The law on this btw is extremely vague, as I've read all I can on it (easily found on google anyway). It's extremely unclear about what constitutes "probable cause", for which a store can stop you. A few times I've been screamed at by them as I keep on my way, two of which times they were extremely insistent indeed. About half the time they let it go and the other half of the time they really press the matter.

Now I'm not one to stop and show my receipts when asked (or to shop at places that do this), but I would never fight off anyone over such a silly thing. I hope she gets a good punishment out of this.

exactly. i will ignore them and continue walking. if it came down to it i would show them it. to assault someone over this is idiotic.

Why do you guys still shop at walmart if you don't like their practices? I avoid the place like the plague, but I don't have a problem showing my receipt due to all the freaking riff-raff their looting the place.

Walmart literally kills other businesses so by their existence your other options shrink. There are still many other places to go but not quite as many as if Walmart didn't exist, so your argument makes sense for the most part but is not 100% valid. In a Walton-idealized world for example nothing would exist except walmart and in such a world it would be the only place to shop.

Target and other such stores do it too. its not just walmart.

for the record the only time any store around here does it is christmas. the busiest time of the fucking year. they decide to do it. well unless you set off the alarm then any of them will ask you to stop.

the oppisiote happened where i shop. We had a tiny Farm &fleet, a Kmart (that fucking sucked ass), 2 small bookstores (1 i am sad they closed. they specilized in comics and Sci-fi/fantasy). and some very expensive small stores.

we did have a walmart but that was one of the smallest in the state. Finally they built a huge Super Walmart. Once it was announced being built and started other stores came in. a Target across the street, Lowes, Meanards, 2 national chain bookstores (one just closed though), Bed bath and beyond (great store), Hi-vee (just opened! i love the store my favorite store ever) and Tons of small stores.

Sure downtown is dead. but its still full of small local owned stores.

as for grocery stores the only one that closed was Eagles. but we now have more choices Between Jewels and Eagles.

Because not everyone lives on the corner of Epic and Awesome street and that might be their only place to shop.

She is just a Simply Appalling, Vicious, And Gross Entity.
People really can be downright evil these days.

The problem with thinking you're clever is when others are more clever than you. I'm pretty sure you were well aware of the "savages" sticky that was at the top of Off Topic for months. We'll be discussing the length of your vacation. -Admin DrPizza (edit: I didn't mean to give any credibility to this post being "clever" - it wasn't.)
