So the video in this story has a customer claiming a battery charger with NO batteries and NOT plugged in began melting in a box.

How is this possible? Where did that tremendous amount of energy come from? Not even capacitors could maintain that much energy for that long to create that much sustained heat.

This is a physical impossibility. Why is NO ONE questioning this???

Here is the link to their review:

"we've owned this item for 2 years and last night my husband noticed an odd plastic burning smell. wakes me up to help find it at 1am. nothing was smoking but something sure smelled like it. with no luck we unplugged everything in living room, got the dogs outside, cats in crates, wrapped 4 month old up, called 911 and waited for them you check. they searched everywhere and concluded our air purifier was the issue so we tossed it out and they left. 30 minutes later my husband smells it again... he's searching everywhere. turns out this charging box laying UNPLUGGED with ZERO BATTERIES in it on our coffee table was melting away. So glad we found it before it got worse. Obviously, dont recommend purchasing it."

man...if only there were a government entity that investigated consumer products to make sure they're safe, and could take action against bad producers.

if anything, i hope this is red meat to lots of class action lawyers. amazon is basically admitting guilt. just need to build the class to a sufficient large size.

It's not possible, unless they put the device in the oven.

Benefit of doubt here. Do they mean that the plastic is degrading and it smells funky? I've had that happen. I've not evacuated the house because of it though.

Yeah sounds like BS, I doubt it has anything bigger than like 470uF caps in it and those won't hold energy for that long if it's unplugged.

Nope. They have pics. It is clearly a high heat melt. But from WHAT ENERGY SOURCE???

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess they melted the charger with an alkaline battery and are outright lying.

The melt source is clearly in a battery bay.

I'm guessing they are both vaxxed and live near a 5G tower? :p

I wonder if they tried to charge a Lithium battery and it melted the charger so they made up this BS because Amazon wouldn't accept a return and it ticked them off.

As a prime member, never ever buy any Amazon Basics. Eye wanders over to piece of shit mouse collecting dust.

This. Dingus put a non rechargable in there, it melted, now they want $1k.

This is why blanket return policies is a bad idea.
