Custom PSU Cables

Saw a topic for it a while back; but it never really took off. (And/or if it did, I couldn't understand most of it.)

I was interested in crafting my own ATX cables (or shortening my current ones) as well as several others. Any ideas/suggestions/etc?

Also, what tools specifically do I need for a job of this type.
How long should I expect to spend on it?

I currently have an X-Connect PSU. I'm tempted to cut them open and try my luck; but I've read some horror-stories, and I don't want to go computer-less when I unsleeve them and can't fix the situation.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Shrink wrap, soldering iron, stager the cuts to minimise the risk of short circuits further. Leave PSU disconnected from the mains for at least a few hours to discgarge the caps, preferably overnight.

Alternativly don't, it's not going to make your life much better either way but it may seriously screw your machine up.

I've just sleeved all my cables, to keep them all nice and tight. Not too hard (but time consuming) and it looks good under a UV neon. 🙂

I made a post about how I had customized the power cables in my machine, including modding the secondary PSUs 8-pin and 24-pin cables to power fans and cold cathode lights. But no one really gave a sh!t. 🙁 I was proud of it though. Especially since I came up with everything on my own. I did everything with the tools required for sleeving, as well as solder, liquid flux, a soldering iron, and some old power supplies for materials..
