custom plexi case

i want to build a custom plexi-glass case, and theres a few things i need to know
1) how thick of plexiglass should i use?
2) do i need extra long screws to mount fans or drives since plexi has to be thicker than .7mm steel?
3) should i screw the different pieces of plexi together or use some kind of adheisive?

mooch 😛

I decided on 3/8" plexi glass for mine - rigid, but not as heavy as 1/2 inch. Adhesives are usually sensitive to heat, so I recommend using screws or cams. And for the fans, I imagine you can get the female end of the screw (aha) and embed that right in the case.

I don't plan on using any. You might want a support piece spanning from side to side on the inside of the case to make sure the back part stays together though. Also, 3/8 was a typo, it should have said 3/14. 1/4 might be better though.

any other suggestions?

make sure when you screw in not so tight or glass will crack you have to countersink as you probably already knew some reason i felt like adding that.

i have been building one in my spare time and I have to tell you, FIND PLEXI DRILLS, I never got any and cracked out the backsides of so many pieces. I am using 1/4" plexi with 1" angle aluminum for a frame. I am mounting the fram on the outside though and am croming it. are you doing a cube case of a regular tower shaped?

regular tower shaped...i was thinking of using the inside of this for my general design...id buy that one, but i think the outside is butt ugly, and i want to add fixed HDD bays instead of using 5.5 to 3.5 adapters for all of my HD's

once i get dimensions, ill make a sketch and post it

What I have found to be the easiest way to make a plexi case thus far is, come up with an idea, no matter how out-there it may be. Sketch it, then attempt to tranfer teh sketh to your plexi without cutting it, just draw on the plastic covers on the plexi. Then try and picture it, having the sides each drawn out makes it pretty easy to picutre, for me atleast. From there it's just a matter of making sure your measurements were right and building it.
