I just built a computer but when I turn it on for the first time I get a beeping noise and no signal on the moniter. It's like one prolonged beep avery few seconds until I turn it off. The fans work and the front panel obviously works, and I've tried disconnecting all the drives and AGP/PCI cards and they aren't the problem. There are a couple of USB cords from the front panel on the case that I don't know where to put, but the user of the comp won't be using them anyway so I just left them loose. Any ideas on what the problem could be? any suggestions? I'm using an EPoX mobo, and an amd sempron processor, and corsair valueselect memory, if that helps.

If the system turns on, and the fans on, then in general I would say the problem is almost always either ram (not fastened properly, the wrong type, just bad, although that is rare) or video card (not fastened properly, or just bad).

I've checked the ram, everything seems to be in order. I tried taking it out, putting it back in, putting it in the other slot, etc. I think it's the right type, though I guess I can't tell if it's "bad". Does anybody else have any ideas about what the problem could be? or is it pretty much have to be the ram?

Do a search in Google for beep codes & you'll find that your description of the beeps is pointing to memory problem. It could be wrong mem type, or bad ram. Put the ram into another computer & run mem test program to check it out.

Also might help if you can pull another mem module from another computer & test it in the one in question.
